I. OBJECTIVE/S
 Describe the components of a scientific investigation.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

a. Topic: Scientific Method
b. Reference: Exploring Life Through Science : Second Edition Grade 7, pp 24-25
c. Materials: Laptop, projector

III. LEARNING PROCESS

A. Preliminary Activities
 Greetings
 Prayer
 Attendance

1. Drill
 Differentiate nonliving things from living things.
 Cite five examples of living things and nonliving things.

2. Review
 Identify the branches of science of the following.
- Study of Earth’s history and its rocks.
- Deals with the ocean.
- Systematic classification of organism.
- Study of animals.

3. Motivation
Do you like detective or mystery stories? Why do you like them? Detectives and
investigators decipher the clues and try to figure out a logical explanation for what happened. Or
do you like to play games that make you think and figure out a strategy or an answer? If you enjoy
mysteries and figuring out answers to questions or problems, then the chances probably is that
you already know something about our lesson. For today we will understand how the minds of a
scientist works and likewise, one of the basic foundations of science.

B. Development Of The Lesson

1. Activity
The teacher will ask 5 student volunteer who will perform the game entitled “Doctor
Kwak-kwak” and afterwards the rest of the class will be divided into 3 teams. Each teams will then
be given 2 minutes simultaneously to observe and plan how to untangle the 5 student volunteer.
Then, each team will take turns in trying their planned course of action within a time limit of 5
minutes. The team having the shortest time in successfully unravelling the volunteers will be
hailed as the winner and will be given points slip for each of their member
 What steps/plans did you take, as a team, in order to untangle the volunteers?

 Based on your activity, how can you describe the components of a scientific investigation?
 If you haven’t prepared or followed the steps/plans you stated above, will you still be able to
untangle the volunteers? Why?

2. Analysis
Teacher facilitates on analysing students’ responses. And using the same teams, they
will try to arrange the steps of the scientific method found on the envelopes given to each of them.
Every member of the team must share ideas on why they arrange the steps the way they did and
provide a brief description on the steps of the scientific method. Afterwards they will post their
outputs in the board and a representative for each group must share their consolidated ideas in
front of the class.

3. Abstraction
The teacher gives salient points on the description of the components of a scientific
investigation.

4. Application
 What do you think will happen to the scientific world without the formulation of the scientific
method?
