2
SCIENCE 5
First Quarter A.Y. 2019-2020

Date: June 26 & 27, 2019

I. OBJECTIVES Time Frame: (50 minutes/ meetings)
At the end of the lesson, learner is expected to:
1. define scientific method by analyzing a situation
2. review the process skills and the different tools use in science
COGNITIVE
3. connect and relate the use of scientific method in solving problems
4. identify the different steps in scientific method
AFFECTIVE
1. exhibit scientific attitude in performing scientific investigation and experiments.

1. demonstrate science concepts, process skills and exhibit scientific attitudes;

PSYCHOMOTOR
2. performs the correct sequence through simple experimentation.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

SCIENCE PROCESS SKILLS
Review Science Process Skill: Scientific Method
III. VALUES INTEGRATION:
Demonstrate positive attitude about discovering new things through scientific method.
IV. READING INTEGRATION:
A – Academically Prepared: Exhibit scientific literacy by preparing learners to make accurate
judgments and decisions in applying scientific knowledge.
V. MATERIALS:
Video, strips of paper, white board and marker, sheet of newspaper, glass of jar, water, egg
(raw), 12 teaspoon salt, sewing thread or string, Ice cube, teaspoon of liquid soap, pin or
needle
VI. DAILY ROUTINE
1. Opening Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
3. Cleanliness of the classroom
4. Review of previous lesson
VII. MOTIVATIONAL BEGINNING
Ask the following questions among the learners:
1. Can you see yourself as a Young Scientists?
2. How will you become one?
3. What do Scientists do?
4. How do Scientists solve a problem?

The teacher moved on to the lesson proper and later introduces the scientific method.

VIII. LESSON PROPER

DAY 1
Activating Prior Knowledge
Ask the learners:
1. What are the problems you encountered in life so far?
2. How did you solve them?
3. How would a scientist solve a problem?
4. What is Scientific Method?
5. What are the steps in Scientific Method?

Discussion

1. Relate scientific method in solving daily life problems.

2. Ask the students to give their own meaning of scientific method.
3. Introduce the steps in scientific method.
4. Call students to write the first step of scientific method on the board.
5. Then the student who wrote on the board will call another student to explain how each
step of the scientific method contributes in solving scientific problem.
6. The teacher will present a problem to the class about the flood that happened these past
few days because of LPA.
7. Ask the learners to solve the problem by following the steps in Scientific Method by group.
8. Before they proceed to group activity, the teacher will have the class watch a clip on
Scientific Method.

Note: The class was divided into 5 groups last meeting and that will be their group for rest of
1st Quarter.

DAY 2

GROUP ACTIVITY:

1. The group will collaborate on the topic given yesterday using scientific method.
2. The teacher will roam around to monitor the progress of the activity.
3. Ask each group to formulate and state hypothesis correctly.
4. Then ask each group to draw a conclusion based on the inferences made.
5. Two representatives will present the result of their group experiments.

Ask the following questions to process the activity:

a. What are the Science Process skills that you incorporate while solving the problem using
Scientific Method?
b. Why are these skills important?
c. How would you apply these skills in daily life activities?

INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY:
1. Note taking
2. Seatwork on Scientific Method

IX. SYNTHESIS:
Instruct the learners to draw a flow chart showing steps of scientific method. The flow chart
must show the correct sequence.

X. ASSESSMENT
A. Activating Prior Knowledge C. Individual Activity (seatwork)
B. Science Activity D. Making of flowchart
