Lesson Plan in Practical Research 2
Prepared by Sheila Mae A. Paco
Date: February 23, 2021
CONTENT Understanding Data and Ways to Systematically Collect Data
CONTENT STANDARD The Learner demonstrates understanding of data collection and analysis
procedure such as survey, interview and observation.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD The learner is able to describe qualitative research designs, sample, and data
collection and analysis procedures.
LEARNING COMPETENCY The learner plans data collection and analysis procedures.
CODE CS_RS11-Iva-c-3
I. OBJECTIVES (Specific Learning Outcomes)
At the end of the lesson, the learners can:
Knowledge Determine the different Data Gathering instruments used in qualitative research
Psychomotor Present a qualitative date gathering method that is applicable to your research study
Affective Give appreciation on the process of data collection
II. SUBJECT MATTER
CONTENT DATA COLLECTION IN QUALITATIVE RESEARCH
MATERIALS Laptop, Projector/TV, Powerpoint Presentation
RESOURCES Practical Research 1 Module 6
TIME ALLOTMENT 60 minutes
III. PROCEDURES
A. Pre-Activity
 Prayer
 Checking of Attendance
 Review on the previous topic
 Communicate learning objectives:
a. Determine the different Data Gathering instruments used in qualitative research
b. Present a qualitative date gathering method that is applicable to your research study
c. Give appreciation on the process of data collection

Motivation
Instruct the students to go outside and write down what they have seen/observed around them and let them
write it in a piece of paper, after 5 minutes, let them share what they have written on the paper based on their
observation.

LESSON PROPER

ACTIVITY
Show pictures of the ff. in the class: (pictures will be flashed on the screen)
1. Telescope
2. Camera
3. Magnifying Glass
4. Microscope
Ask the ff. questions:
1. What have you observed on the pictures shown?
2. What do you think are the common purpose of the things shown in the pictures?

ANALYSIS

Let the students read the functions of the ff. words

1. Telescope- an instrument used to see objects that are far away (Ducksters)
2. Camera- an instrument used to capture image/visual information (Wikipedia)
3. Magnifying Glass- is a convex lens that is used to produce a magnified image of an
object(medical discoveries)
4. Microscope- is an instrument that is used to magnify small objects. Some microscopes can
even be used to observe an object at the cellular level, allowing scientists to see the shape of
a cell, its nucleus, mitochondria, and other organelles. (national geographic society)

Let them come up with one common idea as to the uses of the pictures shown.

Relate the activity to the next topic. (Qualitative Research also uses different instruments or methods in
gathering data)
ABSTRACTION
Discuss the different gathering instruments used in qualitative research.
1. Interviews
Unstructured
Semi-structured
Structured
 Conducting Interviews
 Funneling
 Probing
 Paraphrasing
2. Observation
Complete Participant
Participant as Observer
Observer as Participant
Complete Observer
Ask this:
Is it important to be fully aware of the data collection process in qualitative research?

APPLICATION

Instruct the class to go to their previous groupings and decide as to what kind of qualitative instrument they are
going to use based on their study. After 5 minutes, let the students present their chosen method and state the
reason of their choice.

IV. EVALUATION
Give 5-item test.
1-2. Give the two data collection methods used in gathering qualitative data.
3. It is viewed as the prime method for qualitative data collection.
4. Is the process of observing the daily life and behaviors of participants in their natural setting to record
aspects such as social position and function, or actions and interactions.
5. An observation method where the Researcher is immersed in group/community.
V. ASSIGNMENT
Prepare a letter of communication for the conduct of your study.
