HEALTH AND ENERGY USE POST LECTURE ACTIVITY/QUIZ

Name: Cinco, John Joshua Section: BSN-2B Date:August 19,2020 SCORE___________

1. What energy sources are used most heavily in your hometown?

Answer:
The energy sources that are used heavily in our hometown are Fossil fuel and Solar energy.

2. What do you know about the health hazards associated with them?
Answer:
Pneumonia, exposure to sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and fine particulate matter from traffic
pollution, which are all also associated with the burning of fossil fuels, increase the risk of older adults
being hospitalized for pneumonia.Bronchitis, exposure to nitrogen oxides, especially in young
children, can trigger airway inflammation associated with coughing, fatigue, and fever. These can irritate
the nose and skin too, and cause a range of respiratory problems. Heart Attack, the particles can
accumulate on arterial linings and even to fatty deposits already there, triggering a heart attack. Heart
Disease, react with biological tissues and cause changes in heart rate. People who already have heart
conditions are most susceptible.Neurological Deficits, mercury exposure may affect infants before they
are born.Cancer,A higher risk of cancer throughout life is possible if these harmful substances reach a
fetus from the placenta.Inhalation of toxic organic compounds and chemicals by anyone of any age can
increase the risk of lung cancer. Immune System Problems, several pollutants released when fossil fuels
are burned are associated with reduced immune function.
3. What alternatives would you suggest to promote in your hometown? Explain why you chose that
alternative.
Answer:

The alternative that I would like to suggest as an energy source is Hydropower. It is fueled by water, so
it's a clean fuel source, meaning it won't pollute the air like power plants that burn fossil fuels, such as
coal or natural gas.Hydroelectric power is a domestic source of energy, allowing each state to produce
their own energy without being reliant on international fuel sources. The energy generated through
hydropower relies on the water cycle, which is driven by the sun, making it a renewable power source,
making it a more reliable and affordable source than fossil fuels that are rapidly being depleted.

4. What issues/difficulties can you think of in our country concerning the control of the energy-
related factors discussed in our lecture?
Answer:
I think the issues or difficulties concerning the control of energy related factors in our country is the
increasing demand of energy sources without looking at the possible risks and hazards that may be
associated to it. It may not just affect the environment but also the health of the people living in a
particular area. Also the lack of knowledge about it’s effect and the management in handling the situation
when unexpected problems rises.

5. Enumerate ways on how you can contribute in promoting clean, sustainable use of energy.
Answer:
Energy efficiency is a key step to reducing our impact on climate change and creating
a sustainable energy future. I can contribute in promoting clean and sustainbale energy
by using energy efficient lighting, like compact florescent (CFL) or LED light bulbs in our
home, unplugging our cell phone and laptop chargers when not being used, Use the
energy-savings settings on the appliances we have and buy Energy Star–labeled
appliances.
