1) Explain the roles of Operations Management in context of automotive industry. How the same is interlinked
with other business verticals like Marketing, Finance, Aftersales and IT? Is there any role of OM in HRM
(Human Resource Management) works? If Yes, then how? Can you introduce any new outlook/ angle of
view for the same based on your own thoughts?
2) What are the important (whatever you think is important) terminologies in context of an assembly line
operation (e.g. takt time, throughput etc.)? Please explain the same with the example of any assembly line.

3) Service operation is much more difficult to handle as most of the time it’s judged based on intangible
parameters like experience. Many times, it’s mistaken as better marketing strategy rather than better
operations strategy. As a potential manager how do you differentiate and draw the line between them? You
may use examples from any industry you like.
4) A major reason behind Indigo’s (Interglobe Aviation) continuous success is their operational efficiency.
Though not fully successful but till some extent they have tried to follow the model of Southwest Airlines.
Compare the business model of the both (Only from Operations perspective). What are some reasons for
Indigo not being fully able to copy the same? Also, compare the business model of Indigo with that of
Spicejet (Only based on Operational strategy).
You are encouraged to study in details (from whatever source you prefer) about these three players and
their business model.

5) Compare & cite differences between the inventory management techniques of Amazon & Flipkart? Also,
derive its impact on average turnaround time

the methods deployed by Toyota, why and its impact.

7) Howard Kraye’s sandwich shop provides healthy sandwiches for customers. Howard has two identical
sandwich assembly lines. A customer first places and order which is then sent to one of the two assembly
lines. Each assembly line as 2 workers and 2 operations: (1) worker 1 retrieves and cuts the bread (18
sec/sandwich) and (2) worker 2 add ingredients (24 second/sandwich) and places the sandwich on ten
toaster conveyer belt. The toaster then heats the sandwich (20 seconds/sandwich). Finally, another
employee wraps and packages the heated sandwich coming out of the toaster and delivers it to the
customer (38 seconds/sandwich). Draw a flowchart of the process and find out capacity and throughput
time of the process. If the demand is 120 sandwiches per hour, what should be the TAKT time. Suggest
atleast 1 change to increase the capacity.
