1. What is a system?
Answer: A set of detailed methods, procedures and routines created to carry out a
specific activity, perform a duty, or solve a problem.
A collection of interrelated components that function together to achieve some outcome.

2. What is a subsystem?
Answer: A subsystem is a single, predefined operating environment through
which the system coordinates the work flow and resource use.

A subsystem is a part of a system that is identifiable and partitioned.

3. What is a model and why do we model?
Answer: A model is a simplified representation of a system over some time
period or spatial extent intended to promote understanding of the real system.
Representation of something that is real.
Building models helps us understand the problem (and its surrounding
system) we are investigating solutions for. We build models to communicate
the desired structure and behavior of system, to visualize and control the
system's architecture. Cheaper to build and take less time.
4. What is systems modelling, specifically in IT systems?
Answer: System modeling is the process of developing abstract models of a
system, with each model presenting a different view or perspective of that
system. System modelling helps the analyst to understand the functionality of
the system and models are used to communicate with customers. Using
BMPN, UML
5. What is the difference between an information system and a
computer application?
Answer: An information system is a set of interrelated computer components
that collects, processes, stores and provides output of the information for
business purposes.software, hardware, data, people and set of certain rules
and regulations.
People buy their own computer application and build their own information
system.
A computer application is a computer software program that executes on a
computer device to carry out a specific function or set of related functions.
6. What is the purpose of systems analysis? Why is it important?
Answer: The main purpose of system analysis is to enable the project team to
understand the requirements of the user and develop and application
according to their requirements.
-- To document the system and confirm it has certain required features such
as security, privacy, robustness.
-- To understand the system so that one can improve it, enhance it, expand,
compare, replace or re-engineer it.
-- To understand the system so that one can design critical tests to confirm
that the system is functioning reliably.

7. What is the role of a system analyst?

Answer: The systems analyst systematically assesses how users interact with
technology and how businesses function by examining the inputting and
processing of data and the outputting of information with the intent of
improving organizational processes.
Systems analysts help turn business goals into technical requirements. Most
of the time, the system analysts aren't the ones turning a wrench or writing
code, but they know enough about those things to speak intelligently to the
people who do.
8. What is the purpose of a System Vision Document?
Answer: The purpose of the Vision document is to capture the focus,
stakeholder needs, goals and objectives, target markets, user environments,
target platforms, and features of the product to be built.
A clear statement regarding the problem and the solutions to mitigate those
risks are defined in the system vision document.
9. List at least four information systems (or subsystems) used to
support students.
Answer: Moodle, MyStudentCenter, MIT AMS, Federation Library
