geometric arrangement within the assembly, shown on the shop drawings and, where feasible,
hidden by structural members.
5. All fabricated joints shall have a minimum of 90 percent of the total strength of the film in strip
tensile testing. All structural joints shall be fused in accordance with industry standards and shall
maintain the integrity of the ETFE films and shall be heat sealed only.
6. Uniaxial Test: At least one (1) representative sample of the ETFE film shall be uniaxially test loaded.
Compensation in patterning shall be based upon the results of the uniaxial test loading.
A. Prior to installation of the ETFE System, the Subcontractor shall meet with the General Contractor to review
the erection procedure and scheduling. The Subcontractor shall coordinate all work with other trades.
B. Structural Steel.
1. Coordinate all temporary bracing and final works, including movement and tolerance requirements
and interfaces with the structural steel framing contractor and the General Contractor. See Section
051200 Structural Steel Framing.
2. All steel shall be accurately aligned before permanent connections are made.
C. Metal Protection
1. Where aluminum will contact dissimilar metals, protect against galvanic action by painting contact
surfaces with primer or by applying sealant or tape or installing nonconductive spacers as
recommended by manufacturer for this purpose.
2. Isolate all galvanized steel and unfinished aluminum components in direct contact with, but not
totally encased in, cementitious surfaces with thin dense PVC or EPDM isolation packs.
3. Where unfinished aluminum will contact concrete or masonry, protect against corrosion by painting
contact surfaces with bituminous paint.
a. For cable tension members made of non-alloyed steel, any provided thread on hot-galvanized
and spray-galvanized rope end fittings shall be degreased immediately after installation and
provided with lasting corrosion protection.
2. Cable members must not be installed twisted.
3. Cable tension members shall be pulled into their installation position using a suitable hoisting device
(e.g. winch) or using a suitable lifting device (e.g. suspension bar, spreading bar), so as to avoid
buckling or other damage to the cables.
4. Cables shall not be crushed, kinked, nor handled in any way that causes permanent deformation.
E. ETFE Handling:
1. Take the following precautions during storage:
a. material rolls stored dry and dark location in hanging position
b. protect the material against any dust or dirty
2. Handling procedure to limit the risk of optical damages such a scratches, buckling and dents, as well
as fingerprints on material surface and applying appropriate handling procedures. During
manufacture and on each contact with the material:
a. wear aseptic cotton-gloves
b. avoid any unnecessary roll out or movement
c. in case of unrolling the ground has to be clean and free of dirt or hindrances.
3. Both surfaces of the ETFE shall be left clean at the time of Practical Completion of the work to the
satisfaction of the Architect
A. Testing Agency: Contractor must engage a qualified testing agency, acceptable to the Owner, to perform
tests and inspections.
B. Testing and inspection of representative areas of the Contract Work shall take place as installation proceeds
to determine compliance with installed assemblies with specified requirements. Refer to Related Sections
