PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 SECTION INCLUDES

A. Design, furnish, and install pre-engineered shop-fabricated metal building frame; and metal sloped
roof system including gutters and downspouts, and foundations, with trim and accessories.

1.02 RELATED REQUIREMENTS

A. International Building Code, 2012 Edition as amended by the Town of Queen Creek, AZ.

B. Uniform Standard Specifications of Public Works Construction, 2018 Revision to the 2015 Edition,
Maricopa Association of Governments, Section 505 Concrete Structures.

1.03 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

A. Shop Drawings and Product Data:


1. Shop painting, finishing, colors, profiles, sizes, spacing, and locations of primary and secondary
structural framing members, connections, attachments, gutters, downspouts, and openings.
2. Foundation sizes, locations, and details.
3. Welded connections using standard AWS welding symbols. Indicate net weld lengths.
4. Location, magnitude and direction of column loads. Dead load, live load, and wind and seismic
load shall be listed separately and direction of applied force to foundation clearly indicated for
each loading. Indicate designed stress and deflection analysis. Submit prior to start of preparation
of foundation detailed shop drawings.
5. Framing anchor bolt settings, sizes, and locations from datum. Indicate roof system dimensions,
panel layout, general construction details, anchorages and methods of anchorage, and methods
of installation.

B. Submit Contractor’s and manufacturer's warrantees as outlined below with Bid.

C. Prepare and provide site work, foundation and building construction plans, associated structural and
other design calculations and shop drawing submittals with a written certification and seal of a
professional structural engineer registered in State of Arizona. Certification shall verify foundation
system design, building system design and metal roof system design (including panels, clips, screws,
flexible water stop washers, other roof securing materials and support system components) meet
indicated loading requirements and codes of authorities having jurisdiction. Certification shall
reference specific dead loads, live loads, snow loads, wind loads/speeds, tributary area load
reductions (if applicable), concentrated loads, collateral loads, seismic loads, end use categories,
governing code bodies including year, and load applications.

D. In addition to mill certifications of structural steel, manufacturer shall provide, upon request, evidence
of compliance with specifications through testing independent of manufacturer’s suppliers. Quality
assurance testing shall include structural bolts, nuts, screw fasteners, mastics, and metal coatings
(primers, metallic coated products, and painted coil products).

1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Perform work in accordance with AISC 360- Specification for Structural Steel Buildings and MBMA
Metal Building Systems Manual.

1.05 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Qualifications:
1. Manufacturer: Company specializing in manufacturing products specified in this section with
minimum 3 years documented experience.
2. Erector: Company specializing in performing Work of this section with minimum 3 years
documented experience. Approved by manufacturer.

B. Design structural components, develop foundation and building construction plans, associated
structural and other design calculations, shop drawings, and perform shop and Site work under direct
supervision of Professional Engineer experienced in design of this Work and registered in state of
Arizona.

1.06 WARRANTY

A. Furnish manufacturer’s 10-year weathertight written warranty for the metal roofing system. Warranty
shall be signed by metal roofing system manufacturer and metal roofing system contractor.

B. Furnish manufacturer’s 25-year film and color life written warranty for factory-finished metal coating
systems against cracking, crazing, chipping, peeling, chalking, or fading. Warranty shall be signed by
building system or roof manufacturer and state coating contains 70% Kynar 500 / Hylar 5000 resin or
an equivalent coating system meeting the stated warranty time period and requirements.

C. Contractor shall furnish signed 1-year material and workmanship written warranty.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.01 MANUFACTURERS

G. Nucor Building Systems.

H. Materials referenced in this Section are manufactured by Butler Manufacturing Company, unless
noted otherwise. Equivalent products from other manufacturers are acceptable.

2.02 DESIGN CRITERIA

A. Basic design criteria, rationally applied to structure and its components specified herein, shall conform
to applicable sections relating to design requirements and allowable stresses of following publications:
1. AISC “Specification for the Design, Fabrication, and Erection of Structural Steel for Buildings.”
2. AISI “Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members.”
3. AWS “Structural Welding Code.”
4. MBMA “Low Rise Building Systems Manual.”
5. International Building Code, 2012 Edition as amended by the Town of Queen Creek, AZ.

B. Material standards:
1. Structural steel members: ASTM A572/A572M, Grade 50 or as recommended by manufacturer of
pre-engineered building.
2. Structural tubing: ASTM A500, Grade B.
3. Bolts, nuts, and washers: ASTM A325, galvanized to ASTM A153/A153M.
4. Plate or bar stock: ASTM A529/A529M.
5. Galvanizing: ASTM A123/A123M.
6. Anchor rods: ASTM F1554; Grade as recommended by manufacturer of pre-engineered building.
Galvanize anchor bolts, nuts and washers.
7. Stainless steel: AISI Type 304.

8. Welding materials: AWS D1.1; type required for materials being welded.
9. Primer: SSPC Paint 20, Red Oxide.
10. Grout: ASTM C1107, non-]shrink type, premixed compound consisting of nonmetallic aggregate,
cement, water reducing and plasticizing agents, capable of developing minimum compressive
strength of 2400 psi (17 mPa) in 2 days and 7,000 (48 mPa) in 28 days.
11. Portland Cement, ASTM C150, Types II, III and V. No pozzolanic or reclaimed materials are to be
used.
12. Aggregates, ASTM C33. No reclaimed materials are to be used.
13. Water for Concrete, ASTM C1602.
14. Concrete Mixing Equipment, Concrete Plant Manufacturer's Bureau and National Ready Mixed
Concrete Association requirements and standards.
15. Ready mixed concrete, ASTM C94.
16. Concrete testing requirements, ASTM C172, C1064, C143, C231 or C173 as applicable, C138
and C31 as appropriate to the testing performed.
17. Concrete Curing Materials, C171 or C309, Type 1, Class A or B vehicle.
18. Reinforcing Steel, Bars: ASTM A615 and B670. Mesh or wire: ASTM A82 and A185 as applicable.
19. Wire ties, 16 gage minimum.

C. Design loads shall include live load, wind load, seismic load, and dead load of structure and
accessories:
1. Dead load: Weight of structural frame and all other materials of building system.
2. Collateral loads: 5 lb/ft2 (0.24 kPa) shall be applied to entire structure to account for weight of
additional permanent materials other than building system, such as fans and electrical systems.
Allowance does not include weight of hung equipment weighing 50 lb (22 kg) or more.
3. Equipment loads of 50 lb (22 kg) or more shall be investigated and structure (frame, purlins, girts)
shall be strengthened as required. Contractor responsible for providing building manufacturer
magnitude and approximate location of concentrated loads greater than 50 lb (22 kg). Provide
6" (150 mm) minimum wide structural member to support mechanical equipment.
4. Roof live loads: 20 psf (1 kPa) applied in accordance with International Building Code, 2012
Edition as amended by the Town of Queen Creek, AZ.
5. Wind loads: Compute and apply wind pressures in accordance with International Building Code,
2012 Edition as amended by the Town of Queen Creek, AZ, 105 mph wind speed, exposure “C”..
6. Seismic loads: Compute for seismic response acceleration Ss = 0.196 g and S1 = 0.062 g, Risk
Category II, Site Class D, and importance factor in accordance with International Building Code,
2012 Edition as amended by the Town of Queen Creek, AZ..
7. Primary and secondary members and covering shall be designed for all applicable loads and
combinations of these loads as set forth in MBMA “Metal Building Systems Manual.”
8. Design building to withstand anticipated construction loads.
9. Vertical live loads: Roof covering shall be designed for either 50 psf (2.5 kPa) uniformly
distributed or a 200 lb (90 kg) concentrated (point load over a 1' x 1' (300 mm x 300 mm) area)
located at center of maximum roofing (panel) span. Most severe conditions shall govern.

D. Roof construction shall carry UL construction (uplift) rating of not less than Class 90.

E. Complete design calculations shall be made available to Owner.

F. Building shall be provided with additional steel framing around roof openings, and roof curbs adequate
for design loads.

2.03 DEFLECTION CRITERIA

A. Lateral deflections of rigid building frames shall be compatible with roofing systems furnished, and
potential future metal skirting panels (by Owner).

B. Design metal panel support systems to withstand all imposed loads with a maximum vertical deflection
of span/180.

C. Building columns, girts and purlins providing lateral support for metal panels shall have maximum
lateral deflections under wind loads no greater than span/180 25 year mean recurrence interval wind
velocity.

2.04 FOUNDATION DESIGN

A. Basic design criteria, rationally applied to foundation and anchor bolts shall conform to applicable
sections relating to design requirements and allowable stresses of the following publications:
1. IBC “International Building Code 2012 Edition as amended by the Town of Queen Creek, AZ.
2. ACI 318 “Building Code Requirements for Reinforced Concrete.”

B. Footing parameters:
1. Footings: Proportion to withstand building loads as specified.
2. Design foundations to achieve a factor of safety of 1.5 for uplift and overturning and limit
foundation bearing pressure to allowable values recommended in the Report on Geotechnical
Investigation by Speedie and Associates dated December 21, 2018 provided by Owner.
3. Use dead load of concrete footing, grade wall, and soil directly above footing in foundation uplift
calculations

C. Minimum foundation size shall be in accordance with the Report on Geotechnical Investigation by
Speedie and Associates dated December 21, 2018 provided by Owner.

2.05 COMPONENTS

A. Building arrangement and size: As indicated on Drawings.

B. Primary framing shall be one of the following:


1. Type: Rigid frame design, with solid-web frame consisting of tapered or uniform depth beams
rigidly connected to vertical pin-based columns with “Z” shaped purlins.
2. Type: Rigid frame or continuous beam and column design with open web truss purlins.
3. Building shall have rigid frames in end walls.

C. Secondary framing: Purlins, girts, eave struts, flange bracing, wind bracing, roof opening framing, sill
supports, clips, and other items.

D. Roof system: Preformed metal panels of vertical profile.

E. Roof pitch and slope: As indicated on Drawings.

F. Anchor bolts, structural steel, girts, bracing, purlins, and miscellaneous framing required for roof
openings.

G. Flashings, fastenings, closure strips, girt trim, and base trim.

H. Gutters and downspouts.

I. Flashing vent stack through roof and other required roof penetrations.

2.06 ANCHOR BOLTS

A. Provide anchor bolt assemblies for building columns to suit column loads.

B. Provide washers and heavy hexagon heads and nuts on anchor bolts unless specified otherwise.

C. Do not prime paint surfaces which are to be embedded in concrete.

D. Anchor bolts shall be installed in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.

2.07 EXTERIOR COVERING MATERIAL

A. Roof panels: Butlerib II Roof System with 12” oc ribs/36” (900 mm) wide panels, gage as required to
suit loading.

B. Material: Roof panels: G90 zinc-coated cold roll sheet steel, minimum Grade 33 conforming to ASTM
A653.

C. Finish: Roof panels: Butlerib II Roof System: Butler-Cote 500, fluoropolymer containing 70% Kynar
or Hylar 5000 resin.

D. Roof openings:
1. Openings 12" (300 mm) or smaller: May be flashed and sealed to roof panel, providing complete
structural support and weathertightness is maintained.
2. Openings larger than 12" (300 mm) round or square:
a. Frame with welded metal base, fabricate from 0.07" (2 mm) minimum thick aluminum.
b. Support base and its appurtenances by roof purlins and/or header framing, if required.
c. Base shall have minimum projection of 6" (150 mm) above weather surface of roof and
configuration of flanges shall match roof panel.
d. Seal flange-to-panel joint with nonhardening sealant and fastened in such manner to provide
complete support and weathertightness.

E. Exposed exterior bolts and fasteners: Corrosion resistant (zinc coated); use neoprene washers for
fastenings for covering sheets.

F. Provide eave trim, eave trim supports, cap flashing, closures, gutters, downspouts, and other exposed
trim. Same finish as roof panels.

2.08 ACCESSORIES

A. Trim: Provide trim, flashings, closures, and framing materials as required for finishing roof, and
openings. Finish shall match roof panels.

B. Gutters and downspouts:

1. Manufacturer's standard roof gutters drop box outlet, downspout straps, and downspouts
complete with supports and fastenings.
2. Finish: Match roof panels.
3. Size system to adequately carry rainwater in accordance with local codes regarding anticipated
maximum rainfall. Town of Queen Creek uses 6 Inches of rainfall per hour per the International
Building Code, 2012 Edition as amended by the Town of Queen Creek, AZ.

2.09 PAINTING

A. Structural steel and other framing members: 1 shop coat "10-99 Tnemec Primer", or equal; apply
1 field coat of same primer to field bolts and serious abrasions to shop coat of primer after erection;
2.4 mdft (610 microns dft) minimum.

B. Metal roof panels and accessories: As specified hereinbefore.

C. Furnish four 1-pint (568 cm3) spray cans of touch-up paint for colors selected.

A. Exterior roof panel color: Selected from manufacturer's full range of “Kynar 500” colors standard
colors after award of Contract.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 INSTALLATION

A. Verify foundations are installed correctly. Provide special inspection for foundations and building
supporting members

B. Verify anchor bolts are installed as indicated on anchor bolt Shop Drawings.

C. Erect pre-engineered building in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, Drawings, and other
erection documents.

D. Provide temporary bracing, shoring, blocking, bridging, and securing of components as required
during erection process. Contractor to call Town for periodic building inspections during erection and
construction progress per stage of construction.
