purchase and the reason for or details of the failure must be provided to Motospecs.
This warranty does not cover damage by misuse or improper installation, or liability for

Core Designs

Tube & Fin General & Commercial Use.

Robust, traditional design, and simplicity of construction allow
tube & fin cores a flexibility in installation applications not always
available in other designs.
Internal flow plates restrict the formation of high temperature
concentrations at the centre of the oil path, allowing a more

Stacked Plate General & Commercial Use.

Stacked Plate design gains maximum direct surface exposure to
the air flow, increasing heat rejection for a given core surface area.
Channels vary the oil direction and eliminate the temperature
concentration normally found at the centre of hot oil moving along
a straight passage.
The air flowing through the core is forced to take an angular path

General & Commercial Use.

Plate & Fin Extreme hot to cold temperature variations.
Plate & Fin cores, utilise aspects of both the tube & fin and stacked
plate design. By using a large surface area exposed to the air flow,
and placing finning between the oil channels, heat rejection
potential for a given core size is increased.
Internal dimpling of the oil passages optimises heat transfer rates
by breaking up flow concentrations.

General & Commercial Use.

Self Regulating Extended cold temperature operation.
When the transmission is cold - Controlled by viscosity, cooler,
thicker, ATF is returned directly to the transmission through two
open bypass passages above the stacked plate core.
As operating temperatures increase, and the oil thins, more ATF
flows through the the cooling section of the core, delivering optimal
heat transfer as required.

Mounting Oil Coolers

1. The mounting of cooler cores should be as secure as possible to minimise any form of strain or load
being placed on the core itself.

2. The core should be positioned to take maximum advantage of the air flow available.

3. Where the core is placed ahead of the engine or air conditioning radiators, the gap between the cooler
core and the radiator should be kept to a minimum ie :1/4" (6mm), or the air flow will tend to go around the
core instead of through it.

4. Hoses should be routed to obtain the largest possible radius in any bend to avoid kinking or possible
flow restrictions. Hose movement should be minimised via the use of plastic ties. Contact with sharp
edges or corners must be avoided,and where necessary, suitable protection installed. ie: padding /
protective sleeve.

5. Where applicable, spanner support of the hexagonal sections when tightening screw fittings MUST be
used to ensure leak free operation. Avoid over tightening tapered thread fittings, as this may split the threaded
cooler ports.

6. A non-hardening sealer is recommended for use on the threads of screw in fittings, avoid using thread
tape as it is possible for of sections of the tape to enter the oil flow path.

7. Where applicable, all necessary precautions should be taken during the fitting operation regarding air
bag deployment switches. Refer to the vehicle manufacturers Service Manual.

8. Cooler core efficiency can be increased by approximately 25%, at speed by the fabrication and installation
of a forward facing cowling to capture and force feed air through the core.

9. Where the cutting of pipes is deemed necessary for the installation of a cooler,a pipe cutter MUST be
used to avoid sharp edges which will damage the hose internally, and create swarf which may enter the
oil flow path.

Derale Electra-Cool Remote Transmission
Oil Cooler

The Electra-cool Remote Cooler combines a copper/aluminum core with a high flow Tornado
electric fan for maximum cooling in any environment. Cooler cores have 10mm -6 AN, hose
barb adapters are included if not using AN hose. Cooler kits include fan, cooler core and
aluminum brackets.

Thermostat - Engine and Transmission Applications

As the fluid temperatures exceed 82°C the thermostatic valve closes, allowing 95% flow
through the oil cooler. At temperatures below 82°C the valve is open, with 90% of the oil
bypassing the cooler. The remaining 10% of the oil flows through the cooler, maintaining
constant system pressure, preventing air pockets and eliminating cold oil shock.
