PLM III payload meter outputs

Powered from main truck batteries, unit

will automatically switch off 90 sec after
key to avoid loss of payload data.

Built in over voltage protection >36Vdc

PLM meter output Drives the KOMATSU

Scoreboard real time payload display.

PLM III payload meter cycle states
1 Calculates Sprung Mass whilst running to Shovel

2 After performing empty Tare calculations (whilst

running) PLM will display Empty State

3 Once Brake Lock is applied, or a swing pass is

detected ( 10% of rated load) PLM will switch to
Loading State

4 Maneuvering is the first 160m of travel after loading,

this distance can also be used to re-position a truck
for additional passes, as long as maneuvering is
<160m, subsequent passes will be added.

5 PLM switches to Final Zone after the initial 160m of

travel, (no more swing passes will be added ) .

6 At this point PLM constantly calculates payload until

the Dump body up signal is received, during this
period PLM is in Hauling State .

7 When a body up signal is received PLM goes into

Dumping State,

8 If the dump is complete, PLM will check EVW, then

TRANSMIT & STORE this payload cycle, and only
then switch to Tare Zone (1)

PLM III payload meter accuracy

Final Payload is not the sum of swing

loads, it is the average of thousands of
instantaneous measurements taken
whilst truck is hauling.

Swing Loads may not be accurate due to

underfoot conditions/position of truck

Carry back is the difference between the

current calculated sprung EVW and the
original CLEAN TARE setup value

Page 10 (01/08) Media # CTMDT936 PLM III

PLM III payload meter, Sources of Error

P(pressure) is not proportional to EVW.

In this example the pressure is acting against rod stops
and not the supported mass

PLM III payload meter, Sources of Error cont.

continued

P(pressure) is not proportional to GVW.

In this example the struts have collapsed, resulting in
metal to metal contact and restricted gas compression

Final Payload is not

dependant on loading
conditions

Transducer output should

be routinely verified against
a mechanical Master Gauge
of known accuracy

PLM III payload meter, Real Time Data
Empty truck

Strut pressures are normal

Slight incline

Body Down

Brake lock off

Speed = 20 mph

Operating state = TARE zone

Sprung EVW = 107 ton

Use this information to verify the state of
suspension pressure’s etc

Begin down load, software will automatically store data in the database.

New data will automatically be added to old data for that specific truck.

PLM III payload meter, Flash Burn Utility
Installs all current Komatsu truck Configurations, as Komatsu develop
new strut designs, axle geometry and roll couples, the data in these files is
updated. Not all trucks of one model type are the same, e.g. going from
730E rod up to 730E rod down requires a newer release program,
namely EJ0575-4 (rod up & rod down) supersedes EJ0575-3 (rod up only)

FLASH BURN loads the

configuration files into the
PLMIII Controller.
This action will not erase
payload data.
