Name of the Race – Dragon-men (Alliance)

Background

During the creation of the Dragonflights, Eonar, the Titan patron of life gave a piece of her power to
Alexstrasza, the great Dragonqueen leviathan. However, it was untold that during this exchange of
power, a star fell from the cosmos into the sea that Alexstrasza guarded. With her newly established
power and responsibility, the Dragonqueen followed the fallen star to the depths of the ocean. In the
centre of the crater left by the star lay an egg, still fizzing with heat. Alexstrasza took the egg to the
shore of Kalimdor and blessed it. The egg stayed safe and hidden from the changing world and
hatched some ten thousand years later during the waking of the Dwarves and the creation of the
Ironforge. It is unknown what coxed the egg into hatching. Some say that the formation of ironforge
shook the earth and the egg itself. What lie inside the hard shelled seed were two dragonoid
creatures. And although newly born, both held the wisdom and power of the Dragonqueen herself.
The two dragon-men, bound with magic from the cosmos itself, set out to build a society that lived as
one with nature. Creating dragon-men to live and grow and understand the natural world that lay
before them. For thousands of years, the society of the dragon-men prospered. But their good
natured existence became their fall. Even with the magic of the dragon gods themselves, armies
flooded through the lands of the Dragon-men and destroyed their kin. With no weapons, or means to
fight, the dragon-men lay defenceless. For years the decline of their numbers left the race no choice
but to flee, by air across the ocean, to a new land. Searching desperately to live a secluded, safe life.

To the north-east of the scenic Redridge Mountains, out of sight from the Stonewatch tower to the
south lay a secret world that, until now, had never revealed itself to the world. Since the outbreak of
war the Dragon-men had hidden themselves from the world. Once a proud race and vast in number,
the Dragon-men are a mere shadow society of what they used to be. Since there existence, the
Dragon-men have been a neutral race, looking after themselves and living as one with their lands.
Mostly consisting of farmers, priests and peasants, there was once no reason to train as warriors.
Since those simple, carefree days, countless wars have erupted, pushing back the Dragons into
secluded reaching of the world. Seeing too many of their kin fall to unnecessary purpose, the Dragon-
men evolved into an armed race. Massive in stature and power, these holy warriors use there magic
training to power themselves in the fight to take a stand. Too long have there people been pushed
back by foreign armies, too vast have their numbers been in decline to a war they want no part with.

The chieftain of the last remaining tribe of Dragon-men, Yuchi, journeyed across the continent to find
the leader of the human race. During the past, the humans have helped the Dragon-men flee from
attacks of the Horde army. With very little information to aid him, Yuchi attained an audience with
king Wrynn and forged a treaty between the Humans and the Dragon-men. Although the Dragons are
part of the alliance, their only intention in this war is to claim back what was taken from them. The
Alliance forces are as much to blame for the destruction of their homes as the Horde. But the horde
forces aim to further destroy Azeroth, which would be counter-productive to the Dragon-men’s plans.

Appearance
Since their evolution into a warrior race, all male members of the tribe are trained from a very early
age to become fighters. Being of Dragon descent, the tribe have thick scaled skin, green/blue in
colour. Average height for a dragon-warrior is about 9 foot tall, accompanying their height; they have
extremely broad shoulders and necks. Because of their dragon-shaped spines, their elongated necks
droop giving the impression of having an arched back. Like humans, their huge arms protrude from
their torsos at either side. Shoulder, elbow and wrist joins work in the same manner as humanoid
creatures, only much larger in proportion. There massive hands and only three “fingers” and one
thumb but take up an amplitude measurement of that of a hume. Muscle definition on the warrior
race is prominent, giving a fearful look to their ex-tolerant nature. The build to their legs differs to
those of a human slightly. The thigh, as with a human, extrudes from their hips and tend to angle
obtusely to their stomach opposed to humans that are flat from chest to stomach, to legs. The knees
of Dragon-men, work in a similar “hinge” format to humans but naturally (in a standing position) bend
much further back to that of a human. The calf area is also a lot shorter in comparisons to those of a
human. This is because the giant “Feet” of the dragon-men act as springboards with the majority of
weight being left on their massive “toes”. The protrusion of the thighs are much wide then those of
humes. This is because the long tail of the dragon race starts between their legs (at the rear) as an
extension of the spine. The segmented tail is mostly used as a tool of balance during fights and flying
but can be used as an extra “limb” used to hit foes. The tail is usually some 5-6 feet in length. Elders
of the race (or those over level 60) have deployable wings that unfold from the races backs. These
scaled “Bat like” wings stretch to approximately 13-14 feet in width (both wings) and are used only in
transit (the weight of the dragon-men make it difficult to fly unless conditions are perfect. Both on
the ground and in the air.) The wings cannot be used to hover, or pounce on an opponent.
The heads of the race are very stereotypical of a mythical dragon creature. Their face consists of 2
large horns reaching from behind the eye, and 2 sets of smaller horns below the main pair. The thick
skull of the dragon leads to a large muzzle region and the creature’s mouth that is similar in shape to
that of a dog or other canidae creature.

As said in the race’s background, when the Dragon-men become enlightened, a rank within their
society (similar to a chieftain or elder) they grow wings. The wings are only available for
transportation and fold back into their backs when not in use.
Starting area

To the north-east or the scenic Redridge Mountains, a small unknown region called Passaic (Valley).
Mostly consisting of thick forests and near-impassable mountain ranges, Passaic lays between the
regions of the Redridge Moutains, Burning steppes and Badlands. There are 3 Main settlements of
Dragon-men in Passaic, Peahala, a developing coast settlement. Navesink, the border town to
Badlands, and the Capital Watsessing (Stony hill) set deep in the Valley. Overseeing the surrounding
hostile grounds, watch towers are places on its borders.

Why The Dragon-men?

In a sentence, The dragon-men are huge, ugly and seemingly vicious characters. The alliance faction
(apart from the Draenei) are a civilised group of races. With the addition of the Dragon-men to the
game, world of warcraft can see a heavily built race wreck the Horde forces using barbarism and brute
force added to the alliance. The fighters of the race are unequalled in fighting strength and health
making them similar to the horde’s Tauren, another animal-like race.
Naturally heavily armoured, the Dragons have little use for man-made armour and can only wear
cloth protection because of their shape and size. Their weaponry is basic and primitive, clubs, maces
and with training, swords and axes. The Dragons can also use shields. As magic-forms of the race, the
Dragon-men apply their titan-tinted history to cast powerful spells with wands and sceptres.

In terms of design of WoW when introducing the Dragon-men, little modification needs to be made.
they are as large as existing characters so changes to physics or graphics need not happen. Although
large in size, the dragons still walk and run on their hind legs. The skeletons of the dragons are
different to most however. Most thought needs to be put into the knees and walk cycle of the
creatures. This should be litter trouble, simply adjusting the current skeleton of the races to create a
new one for the dragons. Alternatively, the “heel” or another class, for example the human, can be
stretched back to form the “second knee” of the dragons.
