Brittany sits down across the table from INGRID.

BRITTANY
Hey Ingrid, I need to talk to you.

INGRID
Let me guess. You want to borrow my
notes for the history exam.

BRITTANY
Actually, I just need your advice.

INGRID
Oh. No, that blouse does NOT look
good with those jeans.

BRITTANY
That’s not what I was going to ask,
but, okay.

INGRID
You’re welcome.

BRITTANY
Remember I told you I applied to be
yearbook editor?

INGRID
Mrs. Stevens turned you down citing
your lack of experience?

BRITTANY
No. She hasn’t decided yet. And
this morning, Coach Turner offered
me Cheer Captain.

INGRID
No, don’t take it. You’re
definitely not ready.

BRITTANY
Actually, I was just torn because it
would conflict with my duties as
yearbook editor.

Did you know Coach Turner moonlights
as a cater-waiter at the country
club?

BRITTANY
No.

INGRID
It’s true. And Lisa Cohen said she
saw her sampling the brisket at her
cousin’s bat mitzvah. Rude.

BRITTANY
Ingrid, focus. What do you think I
should do?

INGRID
Have your sweet sixteen party
ANYPLACE but the country club.

BRITTANY
I mean, what should I push for,
cheer captain or yearbook editor?

INGRID
Okay, whenever I have a big decision
like this to make, I always ask
myself, what’s going to benefit me
MOST in the future?

BRITTANY
Well, I’m a writer and I really want
to work in publishing one day.

INGRID
So obviously, you gotta go with
Cheer captain. That’s something you
could write about.
