DEFINITION

 SMART HOME technology intelligently gives you ultimate control over your
home by automating any device such as the lighting system, dimming, blinds,
electrical appliance, audio and security system
 Connect all the device and appliances so they can communicate with each
other or with owner
HOW DOES IT WORK?

 Anything in your home can be put on the home network and at your
command. The home will automatically react on your command.

HISTORY

 The SMART HOME’S history can be easily traced back to the early turn of the
century, where electrical and telephone wiring were installed in new houses.
 Integrated SMART HOME infrastructure was usually built by hobbyist in 1960s,
but it wasn’t until 1984 the term ‘SMART HOME’ was coined by American
Association of Home Builders.
 Bill Gates’s smart home which was built in 1995 attracted many people
because of its features like temperature control, heated floors, customized
preference for room lighting and climate control, monitoring his favourite
Maple tree with sensors and computer to provide watering and better
gardening
FIRST MODEL OF SMART HOME

 X10- Developed in 1975, the oldest and best-known


smart home automation system and uses your ordinary
household electricity wiring to switch up to 256
appliances on and off with no need for extra cable to
be fitted.
 All the household appliance act as receivers while the
transmitters issue orders in numerical code.

An Industry Perspective". published in 2015, the major drivers for Smart
Homes are Security, Convenience and Energy Efficiency. The awareness of
