About Walmart Vriddhi Programme

Walmart Vriddhi Supplier Development Programme (Walmart Vriddhi) aims to support 50,000
Indian micro, small and medium-size enterprises (MSMEs) to “Make in India”, the chance to
participate in global supply chains and contribute to India's economic development as a whole.

Indian micro, small and medium-size enterprises (MSMEs) typically face challenges in the
following areas: (i) supply chain efficiency and inventory management, (ii) technical and soft
skills of the workforce, (iii) product marketing and go-to market strategy, (iv) meeting
environment and compliance standards, (v) technological readiness, (vi) limited access to
financial and legal services, among others.

The project will actively work with small and medium sized businesses to expand their
capabilities through intensive training as well as advisory support. Participants will be equipped
for both online and offline growth, helping give them the tools to potentially become a part of the
supply chains of Flipkart, Walmart India and Walmart Global Sourcing, or those of other
domestic and international companies.

25 Walmart Vriddhi institutes will be setup over the next five years at select MSME clusters
across the country. It will make it convenient for MSMEs from a wide variety of industries and
product categories to benefit from this support. We intend to provide direct program support to
2000 MSMEs over 2 years in each cluster. Mobilised MSMEs will be shortlisted through a
diagnosis exercise. MSMEs with the desire and potential to grow will be able to access
in-person training at their local Walmart Vriddhi institute. A smaller set of business leaders from
this group will then be offered tailored training and individual advisory support to help them
further grow in ways that create the greatest opportunities for them.

Training will cover all aspects of business management, promoting customer-centric strategies,
improving the quality and reliability of products, enhancing productivity, reduce cost by
implementing best management practices, driving a business to scale up, best practices in
workforce management, importance of compliance and commitment to sustainability. Networks
will be developed for supporting the MSME ecosystem, including peer learning groups,
e-learning platforms, mentor volunteers and local service providers. Technology will be
augmented to accelerate learning, facilitate networking, improve business results and program
efficiency.

We aim the MSMEs to experience cost reduction, reduced cost of financing, product and
production improvements, increased turnover, leveraging government schemes for MSME
development, increased understanding of organisation development - and subsequently some
of these MSMEs become suppliers to corporate supply chains. We have designed our model to
ensure MSMEs continue to be growth driven, competitive in the market, and the enablers that
are created by the project continues to be available to MSMEs - cluster centres, resource group
linkages, tech based solution, network, etc.
