1. INTRODUCTION

Horticulture is one of the most profitable venture of all farming activities


as it provides ample on farm and off farm employment opportunities and scope
to maximizing yield there by increase the income of the farming community.
Now a days, Horticulture is gaining momentum and people are showing
interest towards Horticulture venture. However, scientific knowledge and
proposer training in the field of Horticulture are essential to succeed. Hence, in
addition to scheme implementation, the Department is offering Two years
Diploma Course in Horticulture annually for 150 students at three Institutions.

2. ADMISSION DETAILS
ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

Educational Qualifications – Academic stream


Candidates should have passed ALL the subjects in Academic stream of
the Qualifying Examination with 10+2 years of schooling under Board of Higher
Secondary Education of Government of Tamil Nadu / Central Board of
Secondary Education/other State Government Boards are eligible for the
Diploma programme.

Eligible Subjects to study in the Qualifying Examination


(+2) Subject requirements
Group I: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology
Or
Group II: Physics, Chemistry, Biology with any one of the fourth (elective)
subject viz., Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Computer Science and
Home Science.
Or
Group II (A): Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology

Vocational Stream
Candidates who passed Higher Secondary course (HSC) under
Vocational stream and studied Biology and Agricultural Practices as vocational
subject including theory and practical are eligible to apply.
Candidates who passed Higher Secondary course (HSC) under Vocational
stream and studied Biology, Agricultural Science and Computer Technology are
eligible to apply.
Ranking Procedure
Aggregate Mark is calculated as follows
Aggregate Mark = Sum of ((marks obtained in each subject/ maximum mark
for that subject) X 50) all the four subjects are considered.
However in case of vocational stream agriculture practical I and practical II are
not considered. Agriculture theory and Biology will be considered.

In the case of qualifying examination other than Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary
(HSC) Examination, normalization procedure as ordered in the Tamil Nadu
Admission in Professional Educational Institutions Act, 2006 (Tamil Nadu Act 3
of 2007), G.O. M.S.190 Agriculture (AP.6) Department dt. 16.05.2007 and
G.O. M.S.191 Agriculture (AP.6) Department dt.16.05.2007 shall be adopted
for computing minimum eligibility and ranking.

Determination of the inter se merit


In cases where more than one student have got the same aggregate
marks in the common merit list, the inter se merit among such students shall
be determined in the order of priority as specified below:
(i) Marks out of 50 in Mathematics. If a student has not studied
Mathematics, marks out of 50 in Biology or (Botany +
Zoology) - Highest mark first
(ii) Marks out of 50 in Physics - Highest mark first
(iii) Marks out of 50 in Chemistry - Highest mark first
(iv) Date of Birth – Eldest first

Number of Attempts to Pass


The maximum number of permissible attempts to pass in the
qualifying examination is as follows:

Scheduled Castes /Scheduled Castes Three


–Arunthathiar/Scheduled Tribes:

All other Communities Two

A student who discontinues a degree in the U.G programme is eligible for


admission in Diploma programme

Age Limit

Candidates should not have completed the age of 21 years on the first
day of July i.e. as on 01.07.2020. However, for Scheduled Castes (SC),
Scheduled Caste-Arunthathiars (SCA) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) there is NO
AGE LIMIT.

Nativity
Candidates of Tamil Nadu Nativity only will be considered for
admission.
However, candidates who have studied all 10th, 11th, 12th Standards in
Tamil Nadu will be considered for admission, on producing proof of having
studied 10th, 11th, 12th Standards in Schools located at Tamil Nadu.
The candidates who have not studied all 10th, 11th, 12th standards in
Tamil Nadu should produce the Certificate of Permanent Residence in Tamil
Nadu in the prescribed proforma issued by the competent authorities.
However, Candidates possessing community certificate issued by Government
of Tamil Nadu need not submit Certificate of Permanent Residence.

Physical Fitness
A certificate regarding the physical standards prescribed shall be
obtained from the Government Medical Officer and produced at the time of
admission.

3. RESERVATIONS

TAMIL Nadu Ordinance No. 4 of 2007 published in the Tamil Nadu


Government Gazette extraordinary No. 262 dt. 15.09.2007 provides for
reservation in respect of annual permitted strength in each branch or faculty
for admission into educational institutions in the State including private
educational institutions. For the Backward Class Muslims it shall be three and
a half percent within the thirty percent reservation for Backward Class as
provided in the 1994 Act and in 2006 Act.
**G.O. Ms. No. 50, Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare (TD-2) 29.04.2019.
(16% Seat offered to Arunthathiyars within the seats reserved for scheduled
castes for admission in Educational Institutions).

4. MODE OF SELECTION
Selection process is done through online counseling
Candidates will be selected on the basis of the cut off marks in their
qualifying examination and common ranking procedure. After the release of
rank list candidates shortlisted will be informed through e- mail and SMS.
Online counseling system will be followed. Selected candidates have to
report the campus and will be admitted after mere certificate verification, if
original certificates are not produced during certificate verification, concerned
student will not be allowed for admission. Candidates who have got admission
in any other collages and submitted their original testimonials to the collage,
they should bring the letter obtained from Head of the Institutes prescribing
that the original testimonials is hold in that corresponding colleges.

Selected candidates should pay non-refundable admission fees to the
campus at the time of admission along with original certificates.

5. SYSTEM OF EDUCATION

The medium of instruction is English and evaluation pattern is


“Semester Course Credit System”. Diploma programme is consists of 4
semesters (2 years) duration. An enrolled student in order to have diploma
should complete the course credits prescribed from time to time and should
have earned a minimum overall Grade Point Average (OGPA) of 6.50 out of
10.00

6. RAGGING
Ragging in any form, place or time is a cognizable offence that will
attract severe punishment including summarily expulsion from the institution.

7. FACILITIES AND RESTRICTIONS


o Separate hostel for men and women are available in each campus
o Mess is available inside the campus
o All students are expected to reside in the hostel attached to the
respective campus. In exceptional cases, the Principal is empowered
to permit students to be day-scholars.
o Infrastructure facilities are existing in all the campuses for extra-
curricular activities.
o Library and sports facilities are available in all the campuses.
o Students are not allowed to drive motor cycles / car in the campus.
Use of Mobile phones is banned in the classroom.
o Specified uniform with Identity card is mandatory.

8. INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
 Candidates should apply ONLY ONLINE at

 Candidates are requested to read the information given in the
Brochure carefully before filling the application form.
 All columns should be correctly and completely filled-in. Enclosures
should be complete in all respects.
 Application forms with incomplete particulars will be SUMMARILY
REJECTED. Therefore, fill the application (complete all columns)
carefully.
 After on-line submission of application, students can download the
application and printed copy should be produced at the time of
admission.
 The candidates should ensure that correct marks are furnished in the
application

9. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR ADMISSIONS


Candidates shall submit the following documents in ORIGINAL at the
time of admission

(i) Mark sheet showing the marks obtained in the HSC/Equivalent


qualifying examination in each subject.
(ii) Conduct certificate from the Head of the Educational Institution in
which the candidate last studied for more than one year.
(iii) Transfer certificate from the Head of the Educational Institution in
which the candidate last studied.
(iv) The Original Community–cum-Nativity Certificate issued by the
revenue authorities as per G.O.(Ms). No. 85 BC, MB & MW
Department, Dated 29.07.2008, G.O.(Ms).No.96 BC, MB&MW

(v) The candidates who have not studied X, XI and XII standards in Tamil

in the prescribed proformat from competent authority.
(vi) Joint declaration by the candidate and Parent/Guardian to the effect to
abide by the Department Rules and Regulations.

9. Use of e-Mail ID and mobile phone number of others (like internet
browsing centres, friends, relatives, etc.) are HIGHLY DISCOURAGED.
In such cases, there is a risk of missing vital communication from the
Director of Horticulture and Plantation Crops.

11. Original certificates and documents must be produced at the time of
admission.

11. DISPUTE REDRESSAL

With regard to the interpretation of the provisions of any matter not


covered in this information brochure, the decision of the Director of
Horticulture and Plantation Crops shall be final. Any complaints, grievances
etc., related to admissions and academic matters must be first referred to the
Principal who will be the appellate authority with respect to such complaints /
disputes.
