Throughout the whole year I’m excited for one day: my birthday. On my birthday I get presents, eat
cake and my grandparents and family come over to visit me. But today it’s special: I became four and
I am going to primary school! Yesterday I already took my backpack with a sketchbook and colouring
pencils. Mommy helped me with the backpack and together we bought new clothes for my first day
at school. ‘’Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you…… .’’ I hear my parents coming into my
room, I sit straight and my mother and father give me a kiss. ‘’Happy birthday, here, this is for you.’’ I
open the presents they gave me. First a big box. In the box is a detective set. ‘’Thank you mommy,
thank you daddy!’’ I give them a big hug, I was so happy, because I always wanted a detective set and
love the present! Then I open a weird formed present. It is a stuffed animal. At first I didn’t know
what it was, but then I see that it is a frog. There is a button on the frog that says ‘KLICK HERE’. I push
on the button and a weird voice says: ‘’You’re my best friend!’’, and I say: ‘’You’re also my best
friend!’’. ‘’I am calling you Dumbie, you make such dumb remarks!’’. ‘’Thank you!’’, told Dumbie me.
‘’I know that 4 + 1 = 2 !’’. From that day on I knew that I wanted to become a detective with my best
friend Dumbie!
20 years and some months and days later……

Today is a special day, because I have a job interview at a detective agency! I take my bag with
papers about some background information from my past, my computer with the project I had to
make to show the manager from the detective agency, a suitcase with some clothes and toiletry for if
I get some missions to solve and of course my best friend: Dumbie. In all the years I went through,
there were some hard times for me, but Dumbie always helped me. So Dumbie will also go to the job
interview with me today, to support me. ‘’Wait Jessie,’’ shouts my mother, ‘’you forgot your lunch! It
is important that you have a good lunch!’’. ‘’Thank you mom, I will text you tonight!’’, I give her a kiss
on her cheek. I take my bike and cycle to the bus station.

We live in a remote village called Middleton. It is far from the detective agency, because that is
located in a large city called Kingsbridge. It takes two hours to go from my house to the agency.
When I am on the bus station I have to go with the bus to the train station, then take the train to
Kingsbridge, and when I am there, I have to take the bus to Kingsbridge – South. Near to that bus
station is a big flat towering high above with twenty-one storeys: the detective agency. Nobody
knows that it is a detective agency so it’s a big secret! In Kingsbridge are a lot of crimes and weird
things going on!

I walk into the big entrance hall from the detective agency, it is like I am dreaming! ‘’You can do this,
you can do this!’’, I here out of my bag. ‘’Thank you’’ I tell Dumbie. I walk into a big office on the 21 th
storey from the flat where the manager from the detective agency is waiting for me. I show my
papers from my past and the project about what I already know from detectives. He’s impressed ‘’I
think that you are the person I am looking for as a detective!’’. ‘’So does that mean that I’ll become a
detective from Kingsbridge?’’, I ask. ‘’Yes,’’ he looks at me with a smile ‘’you are an official detective
from Kingsbridge led by me. Tomorrow I’ll give you a mission. There are some people killed by a
murderer and you have to find out who the murderer is and how he killed the people. See you
tomorrow, eight o’clock, here in my office.’’ ‘’Bye, I will not disappoint you’’, I tell the manager. The
coming time I sleep in a hotel in Kingsbridge-East because of the missions. It is impossible that if
something happens within a mission I have to travel two hours from Middleton! I arrive at the hotel
and go to the counter. ‘’Hello, welcome to hotel Mory,’’ says the employee at the counter, ‘’I hope
you’ll have a wonderful time!’’. ‘’Thank you.’’ I say. ‘’Room 202 for two persons’’ says the employee.
‘’But where is the second person?’ she asks. ‘’Ohh, that’s my best friend Dumbie, a stuff frog.’’ I say.
The employee looks amaze. ‘’Okay, have a good night!’’ she says. I go to my room and app my mam:
‘Hello mam, I HAVE A MISSION AND AM OFFICIALLY AN EMPLOYEE FROM THE DETECTIVE AGENCY!
Tomorrow I will know more. It’s very busy so maybe I can only app in about a few days! Bye, XXX’. I
am going to sleep because tomorrow will be a long day!

The next morning I walk into the office from the manager again. ‘’Good morning!’’ I say with a big
smile to my manager. ‘’Good morning,’’ says the manager, ‘’sit down. I will give you the last
information from the mission. You get also some work clothes, a tracker and gloves who can create
explosion by the nitro glycerine on the palms. There is a man in Kingsbridge called James Carroll who
kills people. Two days ago he killed three people in a bank and took all the money. You get three days
to get James Carroll in prison and otherwise I’ll have to fire you. Good Luck!’’ ‘’Thank you.’’ I say to
the manager.
Day 1: I walk out of the detective agency and go to my hotel. I decide to first find some information
about James Carroll. The internet says that the man is thirty-two years old and has no children. He
also never came in jail because he outsmarts everyone. I change into work clothes and decide to go
outside. I got a tracker with the information where everyone in Kingsbridge is via the wifi-link from
mobile phones. I see that James Carroll is in a supermarket in Kingsbridge-North. ‘’What do I have to
do?’’ I scream out loud. ‘’Take your gloves and go to the supermarket.’’ I hear out of my bag. ‘’Or are
you scared? We can do this together!’’ ‘’Let’s go.’’ I say back to Dumbie. And we walk to the bus
station to go to the supermarket. When I arrive at the supermarket, after a long time because I took
the wrong bus, I see that a lot of police cars and ambulances are next to the exit. I go to a police
employee and ask what exactly happened. ‘’A man called ‘James Carroll’ killed some people who
were in the supermarket and took all the money. Nine people died and five went some minutes ago
to the hospital. There where no other people in the supermarket. ‘’So ‘James Carroll’ is already gone
with all the money?’’ I ask. ‘’Yes,’’ the employee says ‘’you are too late.’’ ‘’Okay, thank you for your
time and help!’’ I say to the police employee. I bale because already one day is over and I have only
some information about James Carroll. I go to my hotel and sleep immediately so I can start early
tomorrow. It was a long day!

Day 2: Today it’s an important day: the day of happiness. Every year the citizens come at twelve
o’clock to the plaza from Kingsbridge to celebrate the day of happiness. There is a big party with
activities to do. I stand up really early because I want James Carroll as fast as possible in jail! I look on
my tracker but I can’t find his location the whole morning. At eleven o’clock I decide to go on the top
of the roof from the detective agency near the plaza to look if I can maybe see James Carroll from the
air. Dumbie is also with me and I have my gloves and work clothes on. ‘’There he is, there he is!’’ says
Dumbie. I look better at the man and Dumbie is right. James Carroll is one street near to the plaza. Is
he going to do something bad? I go as fast as I can to the plaza. I stay on the corner of the street so
James Carroll can’t see me. He’s walking my way. Then I stand in front of him and make an explosion
by my palms. He’s just fast enough to run away. I run after him. He’s going to the plaza! What do I
have to do? ‘’Go via the other way,’’ says Dumbie ‘’that’s faster!’’. So I listen to Dumbie and run very
fast to the plaza to stop James Carroll. When I arrive he is coming out of an other street. I again make
an explosion by my palms. He flies in the air and hits the ground really hard! I go to him and look if he
is dead. His hart still beats so probably he is unconscious. I take him to the police agency and when
he is in his cell he wakes up again. Everyone in Kingsbridge is really happy that James Carroll is in
prison! It’s already evening so I’m going to sleep because I’m really tired!

Day 3: I wake up and am happy and proud! I go to the detective agency because I finished my
mission. When I come in the office from the manager he says ‘’Good job Jessie, you are an amazing
detective!’’. ‘’Thank you.’’ I say. I discussed with the manager when I start a new mission again. There
are no new missions to solve so I have vacation for a while! I decide to take all my stuff out of the
hotel and go home. When I arrive home, after two hours, I’m so happy to see my mother again! ‘’Hey
Jessie,’’ says my mother ‘’I’ve missed you’’. ‘’I’ve missed you too,’’ I said back. ‘’I solved a mission!’’.
‘’I’m so proud of you!’’ says my mother with tears in her eyes. ‘’Don’t cry!’’ I say back. ‘’But without
Dumbie I was never able to become a detective!’’

Dumbie and Jessie became the best duo detectives and travelled around the whole world to solve
the most difficult missions. And they lived happily ever after!!!
