DALI and KNX
> DALI is a master / slave system Max. ECG 64
> The KNX DALI-gateway is master and controls alone the communication ECG 3
on the DALI-side
ECG 2
> ECGs are slaves
> The KNX DALI-gateway is a Category I controller ECG 1
(according to standard IEC 62386-103)
-> single master, i.e. do not connect additional masters to the system DALI line
> Data transmission
> 1200 bit/s, bi-phase coding for error detection
> Master -> Slave communication (forward frame)
> 1 start bit, 16 data bits, 2 stop bits, (approx 25 ms)
> Bit transmission by interrupting the power supply
> Slave –> Master communication (backward frame)
> 1 start bit, 8 data bits, 2 stop bits (approx 18 ms)
> Bit transmission by short-circuiting the DALI line

Un-assign ECGs by
drag&drop them on “Not
assigned” in the tree
Group no. = 0 means not
assigned to any group,
i.e. individually controlled
Group address assignments are done in the normal ETS environment (not in the plug-in)
To unlink a wrongly
linked ECG, first drag it
back to the not identified
list and then drag it to the
right place.
The original row in the
configuration table is now
empty and indicated by
the flag PLAN(E), E for
empty, and the correct
ECG can now be linked.

ETS application
Control modes, lowest level
> Permanent mode
> If an individual ECG or a complete group
should always be (permanent) switched ON
> All three control objects (switching, dimming
and set value) will be hidden.
> As soon as the gateway is programmed or started up the ECG
or group is set to a parameterized value
> Note: If the devices in this mode should not be running at the
preset value (because of configuration operations or the ECG
was without power when the gateway was started up), the light
level will be automatically corrected after 60s.
> Advantages
> Light level is selectable in ETS
> Permanent mode devices can also be part in higher priority
functions, e.g. panic mode and burn-in function
> Failure objects and operating hours counter are available.
ETS application
Control modes, lowest level
> Normal / Night mode
> Groups and ECGs can be switched between normal mode and night mode
> In normal mode the ECGs and groups can be controlled as normal
> In night mode the ECG or group can either work in staircase timer mode or
activate permanent mode:
> The night mode is activated (1) or stopped (0) via a common object for all channels.
ETS application
Panic mode (priority function)
> Panic (emergency) mode
> This higher priority mode can be activated (1) and stopped (0)
via a common object for all channels.
> When panic mode is activated all groups and ECGs, which
have been enabled for panic mode, permanently switch to an
individual parameterized light value. They can no longer be
controlled via their normal objects.
> When the panic mode is stopped, the devices either return to
the previous light value* or switches off or switches on (central
parameter), and they can again be controlled individually.

Fault recognition in general
> The DALI technology includes the individual recognition of lamp
failure or ECG failure (ECG failure overrides lamp failure)
> How does it work?
> The gateway inquire all connected ECGs periodically for ECG, lamp and
converter (in case of self-contained battery lamps) failures.
> The time between each inquire can be configured in ETS, default is 1 s
> As each ECG is inquired twice the complete inquire process takes 128 s
by 64 connected devices and the default time setting of 1 s.
> How are failures reported?
> Via a number of group objects
> Via the device display
> The status of all ECGs and failure statistics are also available in the web
server of the device

Extension with DALI Device Type 8
> Previous way to control colour (RGB)

> Disadvantage: 3 DALI-addresses required for one colour control
(only 64 addresses available in one DALI-line)
> New way – colour control (RGBW) with DT-8
> Use of one DT-8 ECG and a LED module with RGBW LED’s
> Advantage: Only one DALI-address for one colour control
DALI CONTROL
> Previous way to control white colour temperature (if any) e64 – V1.3
> Mixing of two light sources with different fixed white colour temperatures
> Disadvantage: 2 DALI addresses, mixing done by control device,
accuracy/calibration problems
> New way - Tuneable White (TW) with DT-8

> Colour temperature in Kelvin is sent to the ECG who does the mixing

> The KNX standard is not yet ready
> KNX Data Point Type(s) to control colours is not yet defined in the KNX
standard, but work is ongoing
> Colour settings can therefore not be controlled from KNX directly
> New colour control functions can be configured either in the web-

colour (and/or brightness)

Emergency lighting
General
> Emergency lighting is intended to save life and is considered as safety equipment
> Two types of emergency lighting concepts exist
