Alpha Grid Vocabulary (Adapted)
Alpha Grid Vocabulary (Adapted)
How:
a. Materials
Copies of alphabet grid (a box for each letter to write in vocabulary words)
Copies of a text around a topic. You can choose a Science, Math, History, Social Studies,
Reading, or Writing text.
b. Process
Give the alphabet grid to your tutee and work together to list as many words as possible
about the chosen topic.
Write the words on a piece of paper.
Write notes about the words.
Share notes and answer questions about the topic chosen. For example, if you chose to
talk about Adolf Hitler, they can answer:
o Who was Hitler? What did you learn about him?
o How did he get his power?
Revisit the alphabet sheet—how many of the words were in the selected text? What other
words were important that should be added to it?
Keep this grid to add to as tutee reads along.
