Rationale
This curriculum is meant to guide the computer teachers in developing syllabi, lesson plans, modules
and learner activities for the basic education computer classes.

Key Principles
100% Student achievement
Bloom’s Taxonomy, 21st century skills & EFF are used for developing curriculum, syllabi down to
developing lessons/learning activities
Lessons are activity(& skill building) based, grade level courses are project based; every lecture is
followed by an activity on the same meeting and every month at least 1 project is produced by each
students; short assessment follows every activity & project (written quiz or oral recitation)
each grade level course is divided into ICT basics (computing and ICT basics), Minor topics, and
Major Topic
major topic can comprise about one-half of the school year(2nd sem), minor topics about one half of
the 1st sem, and basics the rest of 1st sem
each grade level course will have incremental increase in the content(&level) of ICT basics over the
previous/lower grade level; incorporate most of the previous/lower levels’ minor & major topic into the
current minor topics, and have a major topic which has not previously been covered
each topic(major&minor) is a subject matter or technology or set of technologies
minor topic may be 2 or 3 previous topics most relevant to major topic
a student portfolio can be made at the end of each school year showing all the activities and projects
done.

use of spaced repetition (most topics are repeated every grade)

as much as possible repetition of topics also happens within school year
students are made to remember all previously learned topics throughout the year (through activities the
require the use of skills &knowledge previously acquired)
students are made to reflect on the content and steps performed for tasks

weekly & monthly activities and projects themes are aligned with Deped, school, and community
activities & events (eg. nutrition month – when topic is slide show presentation app, students make a
slide show presentation with a nutrition theme; on science month if topic is video creation&editing
students make a science video project)

a gradually declining curve of basics (time)

a gradually increasing curve of basics (content)
a gradually increasing curve for minor & major topic (time & content)
a gradually increasing number of skills are required for each grade level
gradual increase of project to activity ratio {activity=same for everybody; customized for/by student}
skill building task, activity, project-based learning
all content procedural knowledge and skill building tasks are divided granularly(chunking)
(smaller chunks for lower grades, gradually increasing in size per grade level)

2
Asian Development Foundation College Basic Education K-10 Computer Curriculum 2016 draft

content procedural knowledge and skill building tasks are gradually combined /integrated (more
integration for higher grade levels)

topic contents for grades 1-6 are all introductory; all reference texts for content must be introductory
texts
when a topic is composed of several big subtopics each with a separate reference texts, each reference
text/subtopic must be subjected to rubric method of division

no immediate mastery of a tool, technology or topic area in one year or semester; instead gradual
master of all tools, technologies & topics through repeated exposure & use and synthesis

materials created at one grade level maybe used by another grade level as source material or tool for
learning

Rubric
Rubric Principles
a simple 0-10 scale is used for scoring grading topic division and level definition
the same scale is used for grade level division lesson division
the scale is used to divide source textbook for content procedural knowledge and skill building
activities
specific grade level course is divided into 3 major components with the scale employed to help decide
on lesson contents etc.
content knowledge procedural knowledge skills(actual performance)

Aims
Our graduates are well-rounded individuals possessing the ICT knowledge & skills needed to thrive in
the 21st century able to effectively go into any chosen field or area of study they wish to apply
