What is SEC’s EAP Pathway?
EAP program puts emphasis on students’ ability to perform in all aspects of the English
language at a level that ensures high performance at the University/College level.
The EAP Program provides a strong emphasis on the students’ ability to perform in all
aspects of the English language (reading, writing, speaking, listening and grammar) at
a level that ensures high performance in a university and/or college.
The EAP curriculum is designed to cover the needs of the students and thus includes
reading and listening activities related to college/university lectures. Students are
monitored on a weekly basis through their homework assignments and presentations.
The students are also instructed in how to;

• research and write formal essays
• how to improve their pronunciation, vocabulary and confidence in
speaking through such forms as debates, seminars and presentations
Core EAP Program details:

• 12 weeks three 4 week modules
• 25 hours/week program
• Program schedule: Monday to Friday 9 am – 3 pm
• Start dates: please follow ESL start dates
• Exams are held at end of each module
• Final exam is held at end of program

Students Choice College vs. University
While some students choose to pursue higher education at the university level, others prefer to study at the college level.
Both levels of schooling have advantages:
College:
• More flexibility in terms of length of study. Courses range in length from 1 year Certificate programs to 2 Year
Diploma programs to 3 Year Advanced Diploma courses.
• Courses are more focused on career oriented goals
• Offer Post-Graduate Certificate programs
University:
• Grant degrees: Undergraduate and Graduate
• Offer Masters and PhD programs
• More academic oriented

SEC’s Unique Services
Along with preparing students for their future at one of Canada’s many educational institutions,
SEC provides each student with a wide range of services:
• Full support with the application process

• Direct pathway to SEC’s partner institutions
• Counseling on ESL and EAP programs
• Information support while students are in home country
• Individual counseling and planning from the moment students arrive at SEC until students
successfully enter the university or college
• Monitoring of academic progress will be assessed through weekly and monthly reports
• Assistance with student visas:
• SEC will arrange joint letters of acceptance from SEC and a conditional letter of acceptance
from university or college
• Individual and group tours of educational institutions
• Educational seminars at SEC

EAP Admission Requirements
• Student will need to possess a high school diploma
• SEC Level 7 or TOEFL 65 - 79 or IELTS 5.0
• High intermediate/advanced speaking level
• Students will need to submit their high school transcript, college/university transcript (if applicable).
All documents need to be translated and notarized
EAP Program Requirements

• Attendance 80%
• Homework and Participation 80%
• Bi-Weekly tests based on Canadian Academic English Language Assessment standards (CAEL)
• Final exam based on Canadian Academic English Language Assessment standards (CAEL)
• Students must receive a minimum band score of 70-80 on final exam to enter college and 80-90 to enter university

Procedure for SEC EAP program
• Student applies to SEC EAP program from home country
• Student writes the SEC English Placement Test from home country
• SEC Headquarters marks the test, and schedules an oral exam via telephone
• SEC sends test results to Agent, and places the students in suitable English classes (corresponding to test results)
• Registration to SEC is made
• SEC processes application and provides College/University with student’s high school transcripts
(and college/university transcripts if applicable)
• Student receives Letter of Acceptance from SEC and conditional letter of acceptance from College/University.
• Student arrives at SEC and studies general ESL until the completion of Level 7.
• Student enters EAP program at SEC
> Student is monitored throughout the program and is assessed on weekly assignments and midterm exam.
** If student is not progressing at a level conducive to studying at the college level, SEC will notify college to defer acceptance.
• SEC provides College/University with proof of student’s successful completion of EAP.
• College/University sends acceptance letter to SEC for student

Description of Partner School Levels
SEC has formed partnerships with educational institutions at different levels.
Below are the definitions of what the levels mean.
• Admin Partnership (Level 1) Schools

Student receives conditional letter of acceptance from partner institution upon registration at SEC.
Student provides partner institution with TOEFL or IELTS score upon completion of SEC’s EAP program.
• Direct Partnership (Level 2) Schools

SEC partner institutions allow SEC EAP graduates to continue to College/University without the need of a TOEFL or IELTS score.
• Pathway of Pathway (Level 3) Partnership

After completion of study at our Direct Partner Institute, students have the option of further continuing into the second or
third year of a Bachelor’s program at a University which has an articulation agreement with SEC’s partner institution.
