Brief Introduction
The office of The Head of Programmes (HoP) is responsible
for coordinating all academic issues of the RAEP/RID
Programmes on this campus.

There are two main Programmes Unit


• Railway and Engineering Programmes - RAEP
• Infrastructure Development Programmes - RID

Students Registration
• At the beginning of each semester, all students are expected
to register a number of courses mounted by the Department
(PC units) before the semester commences.

• Depending on the programme of study, students are


expected to register between 7 to 9 courses each semester
totally between 18 to 21 credits.

• The credits are the weights or value of each course. The


courses mounted for each programme are made up of core /
mandatory courses and elective courses (Departmental
Courses).
• Example: (a) Basic Mechanics - 3 credits
(b) Basic French - 1 credit
Students Registration
• All the courses mounted by the Department are decided on
by the academic board of the university,

• And students do not have the choice to select any course of


their own.

• Students are thus expected to acquired a total number of


credits score of at least 150 credit and above before
graduation.

NB: Students have a week to register their courses in the


first week of the semester. Failure to register the mounted
courses in the first week will attract a penalty. Each day
after the first week attract a penalty of GHS 50 a day.
Lecture Delivery and Learning
• All students have an obligation to attend lectures, unless they
have a genuine concern or reason not to attend. For
instance:

§ Being hospitalized or

§ Representing the university on an assignments

NB: Students need to show proof in both cases

Consequences of Not Attending


Lectures
If a student fails to attend lecture for two weeks in a particular
course, the rules of the university stipulate that the students
concern should be reframed from taking the exams for the
particular course concern. The student is thus, expected to
repeat the course module again before writing the exams.
Mode of Delivery
• In UMaT – SRID, the mode of lecture delivery is
§ Face to Face and;
§ Online using the virtual learning platform

• Other mode of lecture delivery include: Mini-Projects,


Assignments, tutorials, lab work and field work
• Lecture materials and slides will be prepared for students
before lectures commence each semester and this is free.

Learning
• Availability of Library Faculty to aid their learning.

• E-Books and Online Database available at the Library

• Sample Past Questions also available at the Library


Responsibilities of Students
Students are required to:
§ Be present and punctual at all scheduled lectures, laboratory
sessions, field work, tutorials, quizzes and examinations for
the course.
§ Obtain prior permission from the Lecturer for justifiable and
unavoidable absence from class. In case of illness, it is the
responsibility of the student to obtain a medical report,
certified by the UMaT Medical Officer.
§ Prepare well in advance for every lecture.
§ Submit all assignments/mini-projects, etc., for the course on
time.
§ Ask for the results of any tests or assignment to be delivered
on time.
§ Assess the course Lecturer at the end of the semester.
UMaT Course Coding System
• Alphabets: Departmental Code Eg. MC, EL, CE,
MA
• 1st digit: Year of study
• 2nd digit:
§ 1-4 for sub-degree courses
MC 465
§ 5-6 for common courses
§ 7-9 for departmental courses
• 3rd digit:
§ Odd number for 1st semester
§ Even number for 2nd semester
Examples of the Course Coding
• CE 141: Basic French I is a Computer Science and
Engineering Department’s first year sub-degree first semester
course.

• EL 252: Literature in English II is Electrical Engineering


Department’s second year common second semester course.

• MA 376: Mathematical Modelling is Mathematics


Department’s third year departmental second semester
course.

• MC 465: Industrial and Maintenance Engineering is


Mechanical Engineering Department’s fourth year common
first semester course.
