How Online Learning Works – Quantity Surveying

• Add-on Programmes i.e. final year of full time programme split over two

years on a part time basis.

• Majority of modules only run every second year.

• Minimum time period to complete programme is two years.

• Level 7 programme – Project module has to be undertaken in year 2.

• No attendance is required – all modules delivered online.

• Moodle is ATU Sligo’s Learning Management System or LMS

be verified using Turnitin

Exams Office
Examinations

• Final exams take place in January and May each year. Subjects

which run in the first semester only (September – December) are
normally examined in January. All other subjects are examined in May.

• Past exam papers for the last 5 years can be found on the library website.

• Exam results are issued by the Exams Office.

• Examinations can be undertaken in Dublin, Sligo or


on-line (Proctoring).
Examinations

• Deferral of Exams for Online Students - If you cannot sit an

upcoming exam due to extenuating circumstances, it is important that
you formally apply to Defer the exam by filling out and submitting a
Deferral form .

Students who have deferred one or more examinations or any other


assessment work must contact the exams office by e-mail ONLY at the
following link examinations.sligo@atu.ie

• Otherwise you are automatically assigned a Not Present (NP) grade


which is equivalent to a FAIL.

• If you wish to withdraw from or defer your entire course/a semester/some

modules, it is essential to formally do so by completing the relevant
Withdrawal/Deferral form in advance of the deadline dates on the forms.

• These forms can be requested through our Admissions team on


admissions.sligo@atu.ie.

• Module deferral form:-

– Semester 1 Deferral: Requests accepted up to the 31st of October.

– Semester 2 Deferral: Requests accepted up to 31st of January.

Plagiarism

• Plagiarism is copying the words or ideas of others and passing it off as


your own, and is a most serious academic offence.

– All sources that you use must be referenced within your text and in your bibliography.

– It does not matter whether you use direct quotations or paraphrase the words of an author,
you must reference your source.

– Failure to do so may result in a zero mark.

– The School of Engineering and Design uses the Harvard Referencing system.

– Some lecturers use plagiarism software (Turnitin) for the submission of student
assignments.
