Course Description
The 6th grade advanced/enhanced math course will cover the all the standards traditionally taught in the first and
second semester of 6th grade and all of the standards taught in the first semester of 7th grade math course. You will
commonly hear this course referred to as 6.1/6.2/7.1 or 6A/6B/&A. This course will move at a fast pace due to
the nature of teaching 3 semesters of information in 2 semesters time period. For more information about the
course, please visit https://www.georgiastandards.org/Georgia-Standards/Pages/Math-6-8.aspx Students who are
successful in this course will complete 7.2/8.1/8.2 in their 7th grade school year, and they will complete high school
Algebra 1 during their 8th grade school year.

Grading
Students in grades 6-12 will earn numerical final grades for the marking period. Grades should be based on the
student's mastery of standards. A student’s final course grade for the marking period is equal to the average of the
grades completed. A student must complete 80% of graded assignments to earn a numerical grade in their course,
otherwise they earn an Incomplete. All grades will be entered into Infinite Campus. End of semester grading will
reflect the following:
A – 90-100%
B – 80-89%
C – 70-79%
F – 69% and below
I- Incomplete
NG- No Grade

Recovery
Per GADOE guidance, “students will be allowed to redo, resubmit, and/or retake assignments.” If needed, students
will be provided three opportunities to demonstrate their mastery of the learning target(s) beyond the original due
date set by the teacher. Individual Personal communication targeted towards one or more learning targets can be
used to demonstrate mastery.
Attendance and Policy Reporting:
Attendance will be taken every day during remote learning. Students who are absent (meaning they did not sign in
during live instruction) will follow the same process the school used prior to URL to excuse those absences.
Teachers will note absences or incomplete/missing assignments in Infinite Campus. Excused or unexcused absence
standards will remain the same as will any processes regarding make up work.

Make-Up Work
Each student is responsible for making up work due to an absence according to the guidelines for make-up work in
the Fulton County Student Handbook. Upon returning to class following an absence, it is the student’s
responsibility to contact the teachers to request make-up work. The student must complete make-up work within the
time specified by the teacher. (At Elkins Pointe Middle School, the student will be given the same amount of time
to make up work as the student was absent unless other arrangements are mutually agreed upon.)

Discipline Cycle
In order to maintain an environment conducive to learning, students must follow behavior guidelines. Should a
student not follow these expectations, teachers will use a combination of some of the following methods: verbal
reprimands, seating change, time-out, conference between student and teacher, communication to parent via e-mail,
agenda, or telephone, referral to guidance counselor, conference between parent, teacher, and student, and
conference between parent, teacher, student, and administrator.

Teachers will review behavior expectations and consequences for Elkins Pointe Middle School. Students who
behave in a fashion that puts themselves or other students in physical danger, behave or speak in a threatening
fashion, refuse to follow a directive, or exhibit significant disrespect toward an adult will be referred to the office
immediately.

Homework Expectations
Students are expected to finish any remaining classwork assignments for homework. Other homework may be
assigned on some occasions. Students are expected to work on iReady math and IXL throughout the week.

Classroom Expectations and Consequences

In order to facilitate learning, I expect each student to adhere to the following procedures.

Students are expected to:

 come prepared for class with your school issued device, agenda and supplies listed above.
 always be respectful to teachers, substitutes, and classmates.
 be on-time to class.

Teacher/Parent Communication
All grades will be posted to Infinite Campus. Please check this platform at least once a week. I will contact
parents/guardians by email (most often once a week) regarding items of general interest. Teachers will maintain
communication with parents and additionally on an as needed basis. E-mail is the best way to contact teachers.

Textbook
For the 2020-2021 school year, all students will have access to a textbook online. Students can access this by
logging in to their Launchpad/ClassLink account at the following website www.bit.ly/mathbook17 Textbook is used
as a supplemental resource, not the primary source of instruction.

Academic Honesty
Academic honesty means performing all academic work without plagiarism, cheating, lying, tampering, stealing,
giving or receiving unauthorized assistance from any other person, or using any source of information that is not
common knowledge without properly acknowledging the source.

Virtual Learning Expectations

Students will be expected to attend live lessons each day during virtual learning based on their individual
schedule. Students will find their class and live instruction in Microsoft Teams. All assignments must be
submitted via Teams unless otherwise stated (Do NOT submit anything via email). Attendance will be
taken each class period and live instruction will be recorded.
