Ferdinand Magellan was the first European to come to the Philippines in

1521. When he landed to the Island Cebu, the native chief Rajah Humabon, his wife
and hundreds of his native warriors agreed to accept Christianity and were
consequently baptized.

This picture was taken Last 2018 during our stay in Cebu City, I became
curious on who are the persons behind this iconic murals but the unrecognized
painters of an artwork is already on postcards, travel books and others. According
to some, Jerry M. Josol and Jess Roa are the ones who painted this iconic mural.
The octagon ceiling depicts the two important scene happened in Cebu City last
April 21, 1521. The half of the dome was the baptism of Rajah Humabon and the
other shows the erection of wooden cross on shores of Cebu. This marked the
events of Christianity and the beginning of Spanish Colonization in the Philippines.
However, my recent interpretation of this artwork by the artist and artisans in the
past is 1st Christianity was born in Cebu and spreaded throughout our country we
can also see the Sto. Niño that is the Patron Saint of Cebuanos; this also serves as
mural painting as one of the best representations of historical artwork in the
collection in the Philippines.
