TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

It is a great pleasure for me to introduce Mohammad Zahir Uddin Suja who has been the student of the
department of Applied Physics, Electronics and Communication Engineering (APECE) at University of
Dhaka. He is known to me for about four years as one of my undergraduate students at APECE and also
through his final year project which he led under my supervision. Therefore I am in a position to observe
him very closely.

As a professor of the department, I was in charge of the “APECE 107: Laboratory work” course during
his first year. Afterwards I taught him a course “APECE 405: Computer Peripherals and Interfacing” in
his fourth year. During my 4 years of acquaintance with, the notable quality that has thoroughly
impressed me is his sharp thinking. An eager and keen student in grasping anything new in his field, he
has been regularly keeping himself update about latest developments in his field. He has achieved this
through active participation in the seminars conducted by our department and extensive use of the
university library. Mr. Suja has a natural inclination for research. During his 3rd year, he has successfully
finished a research work on Photonics which is titled as “Threshold Refractive Index for Band Gap in
Photonic Crystal” under my supervision. This work has been published in the Optics and Precision
Engineering (ISSN 1004-924X). He has also completed a Conference poster presentation based on this
paper in “International Conference On Micro/Nano Engineering (ICOME)”, 2011, China.

I have also supervised Mr. Suja and his partner Ms. Sunayna Binte Bashar for their final year project.
This group was the most talented project group that I have supervised ever. They did the project work
titled “Parametric Study on Subwavelength Plasmonic Nanostructure for Enhanced Optical Transmission
(EOT)”. As the project adviser, I have observed and monitored Mr. Suja at close quarters. In this work,
the variation of different parameters that affects the EOT have been observed. At the first stage he has
formulated the dispersion equations using MATLAB. And then after preparing the structure using the
layout designer of OptiFDTDTM, he along with his partner varied different parameters to observe the
changes in transmission efficiency. Now we are preparing the manuscript to submit the noble findings
from this project to some international journal for publishing our results.

Constantly Mr. Suja has maintained a high grades in academic. I’ll rate him in the top 5% amongst
approximately 74 students in the class. He obtained a CGPA of 3.84 in a 4.00 point scale and ranked 3 out
of 74 students in his B.Sc. Honours course. He possesses a strong background in electrical and electronics
engineering courses which would enable him to reach to the heart of a challenging problem with his deep
insight in analyzing it first and formulating the possible solution through his exceptional skills and
ingenuity in logical thinking.

As a person Mr. Suja is very polite and gentle. He is very popular among his friends and fellow-mates.
Moreover, he can communicate fluently in English, both verbally and in writing, which is demonstrated in
his TOEFL score of 97. He is worthy as an organizer. He organizes a lot of seminars in this department
and also holds a governing position in the Electronics & Communication Club (ECC). His strong
determination and leadership quality gives him the opportunity to lead a group aiming at successful
completion of any task.

I am glad to know that he is trying for admission to Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Illinois Institute
of Technology. For his superior qualities, I recommend him very strongly for admission to this program.
I also highly recommend him for any possible financial assistance.

I wish him success in his every future endeavor.
