The Quick Sizer tool translates your business requirements into technical requirements
using a proven sizing methodology we at SAP have developed in close cooperation
with our technology partners. By determining these sizing requirements, you can
help ensure your hardware purchase meets your business and performance needs,
reducing your costs and total cost of ownership in the process.

Just consider the costs of unused hardware, for
example – beyond its initial price, you also have
to account for the ongoing energy and mainte-
nance costs it will accrue.
AN ECONOMICALLY BALANCED SYSTEM
Quick Sizer is an online application available
at www.sap.com/sizing that provides up-to-date
sizing information and guides you through a
structured questionnaire. It states your business
requirements as simple business-oriented
figures such as the number of users or expected
number of business processes and documents.
Quick Sizer then translates these figures into
hardware-­independent requirements that
­enable initial budget planning. Based on the
­determined categories, SAP technology
­partners can propose a complete system
configuration for your system landscape and
components.
The performance requirements of SAP® solutions
are usually defined by the business requirements.
Hardware and system performance, however,
is measured by technical performance indicators.
Matching these fundamentally different perfor-
mance figures is the goal of the sizing process
(see the figure). To this end, the information

SIZING METHODS
Quick Sizer uses two sizing approaches: user-
based and throughput-based methods. For small
businesses, the user-based sizing approach may
be appropriate. This approach determines business
requirements by the number of users performing
specific business tasks. It groups users per business
task according to their estimated usage activity
and provides a sizing recommendation based on
this information. For midsize, large, and complex
businesses, we recommend an additional
throughput-based sizing. As well as considering
the number of users, this approach uses additional
information about the number of business
processes and business objects.
THE RESULT: A BALANCED SET OF NECESSARY
HARDWARE COMPONENTS
Our comprehensive sizing methodology helps
ensure that all the hardware components you
need build a balanced system infrastructure.
Furthermore, database and application servers
are adequately equipped to fulfill your business
requirements. We propose the right combination
of processing performance (in SAPS*), main
memory (in MB), database space (in GB), and
disk input and output (disk I/O) operations
(per second).

*SAP Application Performance Standard (SAPS) is a hardware-independent unit that describes the performance of a system
configuration in an environment using SAP software. It is derived from the sales and distribution benchmark, where 100 SAPS is

PROVEN SIZING METHODOLOGY AND SCOPE
The sizing methodology is based on performance measure-
ments and is validated by approximately 30,000 projects
undertaken by customers and partners each year using
Quick Sizer. With the Quick Sizer designed for SAP HANA,
you can conduct greenfield sizings for software such as
SAP S/4HANA® and the SAP BW/4HANA solution.
COOPERATION WITH SAP TECHNOLOGY PARTNERS
Comprehensive sizing support is a joint effort. We have
developed and deployed the sizing methodology in close
cooperation with our technology partners, including those
who provide hardware. Unified standards and goals agreed
upon with these technology partners help ensure the right
