dual source supply. Gate valves shall be installed between 2 inlet branch
pipes on the trunk pipes.
1.4.6 Gate valves shall be installed at each branch pipe to facilitate future
maintenance and operation of the potable water and fire hydrant system.
1.4.7 Air valves shall be installed at the highest invert level as far as possible.
1.4.8 Washout chamber shall be installed at the lowest invert level as far as
possible. The pipe end of each washout chamber shall be connected to
the nearest stormwater manhole.
1.4.9 A HDPE pipe inside concrete sleeve pipe shall be installed for pipelines
across taxiways or taxilanes. Details of sleeve pipe shall be as shown
on the Employer’s Drawings.
1.5.1 The water flow of each street hydrant shall be 2,000 l/min of each outlet.
2 outlets on each street hydrant shall be in service under operation.
1.5.2 Six street hydrants are designed to be operated at the same time and
capable of providing a total flow of 24,000 l/min with a minimum running
pressure of 170 KPa (multi fire flow).
1.5.3 Each pit fire hydrant is provided with 4 hydrant outlets. Each hydrant
outlet shall be capable of delivering a flow of not less than 2,000 l/min
with a minimum running pressure of 170 KPa.
1.5.4 Three pit hydrants are designed to be operated at the same time and
capable of providing a total of 24,000 l/min with a minimum running
pressure of 170 kPa (multi fire flow).
1.5.5 The fire hydrant system shall be capable to achieve 2 multi fire flows at
critical locations. The two fire flows are taken as one at existing airport
island and the other one fire flow at new airport island. The critical
locations are those with the lowest residual pressure head at the fire
hydrants.
1.6.1 Thrust blocks shall be capable of resisting 1.5 times the working
pressure of the pipelines. The working pressure shall be 10 bars.
1.6.2 Non-standard thrust blocks to cater for site constraints shall be designed
by the Contractor on a case by case basis and the design shall be
submitted to the Project Manager for review without objection.
2.1.1 The minimum residual pressure head for cooling water for each building
shall be achieved to the requirements as stipulated in Employer’s
Drawings.
2.1.2 The minimum residual pressure head at the boundary of each building
for flushing water shall be 15m.
2.2.1 Twin pipes are provided for the seawater cooling water under critical
condition. The piping system shall take into account the peak flow of
cooling water and flushing water.
2.2.2 The diameter of upstream pipelines shall not be larger than downstream
pipelines.
2.2.4 Gte valves shall be installed at each branch pipe to facilitate future
maintenance and operation of the seawater supply system.
2.2.5 Air valves shall be installed at the highest invert level as far as possible.
2.2.6 A washout chamber shall be installed at the lowest invert level as far as
possible. The pipe end of each washout chamber shall be connected to
the proposed nearest stormwater manhole.
2.2.7 A HDPE pipe inside concrete sleeve pipe shall be installed for pipelines
across taxiways or taxilanes. Details of the sleeve pipe are shown on the
Employer’s Drawings.
2.3.1 Thrust blocks shall be capable of resisting 1.5 times the working
pressure of the pipelines. The working pressure shall be 10 bars.
2.3.2 Non-standard thrust blocks to cater for site constraints shall be designed
by the Contractor on a case by case basis and the design shall be
submitted to the Project Manager for review without objection.
3.1 REFERENCE
3.1.1 The design of the sewerage system shall refer to the following manuals,
guidelines and standards:
3.2 GENERAL
3.2.1 The sewerage system shall be capable of meeting the peak flow
condition without surcharge and overflow.
3.3.1 Self-cleansing for small diameter sewers of diameter less than 300mm
shall be achieved by ensuring either that a velocity of at least 0.7m/s
occurs daily, or that a gradient of at least 1: DN (i.e. Nominal diameter of
the sewer in mm) is specified, provided that a flow of 2 Average Dry
Weather Flow (ADWF) is assumed to occur at least once daily.
3.3.2 For larger diameter sewers, higher minimum velocities shall be used
particularly if relatively coarse sediment is expected to be present.
Sewers of diameter up to 900mm shall be designed to achieve a self-
cleansing velocity of 1.0 m/s in full pipe condition.
3.5.1 The junction of every other branch drain with another drain shall be made
within a manhole, obliquely at an angle of not more than 600 in the
direction of flow of such other drain, and shall be above the invert of such
other drain.
3.6 MANHOLE
3.7.1 Standby capacity is required so that should any of the pumps in the
station be inoperable due to routine maintenance or pump failure, the
operation of the station can still be maintained.
3.7.2 The volume between top water level and bottom water level for a single
pump operation is given by the following equation: V = 900Q/N
3.8.3 Air relief valves shall be installed at locations of minimum pressure. Air
is sucked in the air relief valve when the pipe internal pressure is below
atmospheric. Upon subsequent pressure rise, the admitted air is then
forced out. They shall be installed at convex points of the pipeline (i.e.
local high points).
3.9.1 Thrust blocks shall be capable of resisting 1.5 times the working
pressure of the pipelines. The working pressure shall be 10 bar.
3.9.2 Non-standard thrust blocks to cater for site constraints shall be designed
by the Contractor on a case by case basis and the design shall be
submitted to the Project Manager for review without objection.
