DO YOU THINK PAYING TAX IS A GOOD OR BAD THING?

Thank you very much for the warm welcome. I am very much looking forward to having classes with
you.

My full name is John Lee D. Dacpano. You can simply call me “John Lee”. I am single and a full-time
student.

I believe that paying taxes is a good thing because tax money is what enables our government to provide
for the benefit of all its citizens. Without taxes, our government has no means to operate continuously –
we will have no new infrastructure projects, no salary for government workers, no government
assistance for the marginalized, no funds for the national and civilian security, no means to pay our
national debts, no funds for any government project, and so forth. In other words, without taxes, our
government will be paralyzed. Hence, the tax is the lifeblood that enables our government to continue
its existence. Paying taxes is perhaps the most patriotic act that Filipinos can do because a portion of our
hard-earned money redound to the welfare of every citizen in the country, and I believe that is a very
good thing.
