under the sprinkler with my brother. We run through the

water and scream each time! At night, I play hide and

seek with my friends. I usually hide behind the big bush. I

love it when the weather is warm.

Paragraph
Why are you and your friends actually friends? People who are friends
usually have in common. Perhaps they like sports, ice cream, skateboarding,
or collecting rubber chickens.

A paragraph is kind of like a group of friends. Paragraphs are groups

of sentences that share a common idea. They are all written about a certain
topic, just like friends usually share a common interest.
 Parts of a Simple Paragraph

 Topic Sentence
o The first sentence of a paragraph is usually the topic
sentence (sometimes the topic sentence can
come later, but generally it is the first sentence). The topic
sentence will give you the main idea of the entire paragraph.
Example:
The warm weather allows me to play outside.
-This is the topic sentence from the previous activity which
the whole paragraph is all about is talking about.

 Supporting Sentences
o After the topic sentence, you will have supporting
sentences. In these sentences, the writer will go into more
detail to explain the topic. You may find statistics or data to
back up a statement.
Example:
I play under the sprinkler with my brother. We run
through the water and scream each time! At night, I play
hide and seek with my friends. I usually hide behind the big
bush.
-These supporting details aim to prove or give details to the
topic sentence.
 Last Sentence (Conclusion)
o The last sentence, called the concluding sentence, will give
a brief summary or ending of the entire paragraph.
Example:
I love it when the weather is warm.
-In a simple paragraph, you can see an ending remark that
concludes the whole paragraph.
PARAGRAPH HAMBURGER

 Instruction: Imagine that the parts of a paragraph are the ingredients of a

hamburger. Arrange the jumbled sentences to form a whole paragraph. Write
it on the specific ingredient of a hamburger. The write the topic sentence on
the top bun, the supporting details on the lettuce and patties, and the
conclusion is on the bottom bun.

 It would be a moment of bonding and relaxation.

 It was an exciting Saturday for me!
 We were so busy the entire- I with my schoolwork and she with her
work at the hospital.
 Mother and I planned our trip to the mall.

An Exciting Saturday
TIP! If you have difficulty sifting through
information, reading the topic sentence and
concluding sentence will give you the main points
contain in the paragraph. For details, you can then
look at the supporting sentences.

In this corner, you will be creating

your own paragraph about your favourite
things. It should be within 4-6 sentences.
Score will be based with the following
criteria: Completeness - 5, Order - 5, and
Coherence – 5 = 15pts.
