Aerosol n. container in which a liquid such as paint or perfume is kept under high
pressure so that it can be sprayed (forced out in very small drops); an aerosol can
/spray.

Acid n. a strong chemical that can damage other substances.

Active adj. always doing things, especially with energy and enthusiasm: Rose is
still active at the age of 87.

Actor n. someone who performs in plays and movies.

Actress n. woman who performs in plays and movies.

Agree v. to have the same opinion as someone else.

Alien n. a creature from another planet. Something strange.

Alike adv. In the same way or in a similar way: Students of both sexes dressed alike.

Alike adj. similar: The sisters don´t really look alike.

Amazing adj. very good, surprising, or impressive: Her story was quite amazing.

Angry adj. very annoyed.

Architecture n. a particular style of building. The study or practice of designini


buildings.

Artist n. one skilled in a fine art.

Argue v. to discuss something that you disagree about, usually in an angry way.

Arrival n.the time when someone or something arrives at the place from
somewhere else.

Awful adj. extremely bad. Ex. This wine tastes awful.

Awesome adj. very impressive and sometime a little frightening. Extremely good.

Axle n. a pin or shaft on which a wheel revolves.

Bad-tempered adj. made annoyed or angry very easily.

Basement n. the part of a building below the level of the ground.

Beer n. a yellow or brown alcoholic drink made from grain: a barrel of beer.

Belong v. to be in a right place: That lamp belongs on the desk. To be owned by


someone: The car belongs to Jorge.

Blend v. to mix things together. A combination of different tastes, styles, or


qualities.

Boring adj. not at all interesting.

Bossy adj. someone who is bossy is annoying because they keep telling other
people what to do.

Bowling n. an indoor game in which players roll heavy balls along a track and try to
knock down a group of pins (objects that look like bottles).

Bridge n. a structure that support a road, railroad, or path going over a river, over
another road, etc.

Bright adj. full of strong shining light: It was a bright sunny day, I could see a bright
light in the sky.

Building n. a structure such as a house that has a roof and walls: The city hall was
a large impressive building.

Cable n. a wire rope or metal chain of great strength.

Can n. a basket.

Can v. the ability to do something.

Cartoon n. a movie or tv show made by photographing a series of drawings so that


things in them seem to move. A humorous drawing in a newspaper or magazine, a
comic strip.

Career n. a profession . His career is engineering.

Charity n. an organization that gives money and help to people who need it: a
registered charity. Money or food that is given to people who need it. The event
raised $70.000 for charity.

Chat v. to talk in a friendly way. To exchange messages with someone using


computers.

Cheerful adj. behaving in a happy friendly way: Paolo was a cheerful, affectionate
child.

Chip n. a very thin piece of fried potato or tortilla: Chips and salsa.

Clothes n. (plural) shirts, dresses, pants, and other things that

you wear: a pile of dirty clothes.

Collect v. to get things and keep them together for a particular reason.

Comedy n. a funny movie, play, or television program.Entertainment intended to


make people laugh.

Confident adj. certain about your abilities and not nervous or frightened: I was
starting to feel more confident about the exam.

Conveyor belt n. An apparatus consisting of small wheels over which a belt moves to
transport things, materials, luggage etc.

Crosswalk n. a painted path that people use for crossing a street.

Daydream v. to spend time thinking about something pleasant when you should be
doing something more serious.

Design v. to decide how something will be made, how it will work, or what it will
look like, ad often to make drawings of it: The bride wore a dress that she designed
herself.

Director n. someone whose job is to tell the actors and technical staff who are
involved in a movie, play, or program what to do. Someone whose job is to
manage all or part of a company, organization, or institution.

Display v. to put something in a particular place so that people can see it easily: She

Drop you a line (phrase) send a short written message to you or to somebody.

Documentary n. a movie or television program that deals with real people and events.

Talk show n. a television or radio program in which the host talks to famous people
in an informal way.

Dresser n. a piece of bedroom furniture with a lot of drawers.

Drugstore n. a store that sell medicines, beauty products and other goods.

Earth n. The planet in which we live.

Effort n. something produced by exertion. External resistance overcome by a


machine or prime mover.

Elevator n. a car for carrying people or things to different levels.

Engine n. the part of a vehicle (motor) that makes it move.

Environment n. the place in which people live and work, including all the physical
conditions that affect them. The natural world, including the land, water, air, plants
and animals.

Fancy adj. with a lot of features or decorations: fancy computers graphics.
Expensive and fashionable: a fancy hotel.

Fancy n. feeling of wanting or liking someone or something : One of the boys has
taken a fancy to my daughter.

Fauna n. all the animals that live in a particular area.

Fightfighter n. a person trained to put out fires.

Film n. moving pictures that tell a story. Movie: We watched a film about prison life.

Forest n. a large area of land which is covered by trees and others plants growing
close together.

Fossil n. an animal or plant from the past that has been preserved in rock.

Fossil fuel n. coal or oil used as fuel.

Fruition n. the result that you wanted to achieve from a plan or idea: Nobody was
sure wheater the deal would ever come to fruition.

Fuel n. a substance such as oil, gas, coal, or wood that produces heat or power
when it is burned.

Funnel n. a tube that is wide at the top and narrow at the bottom. It is used for
pouring a liquid or powder into a container. A tube that lets out smoke and steam
from the engine of a boat or an old-fashioned train.

Gadget n. a small tool or piece of equipment that does something that is useful or
impressive.

Gate n. a door in a fence or wall that you go through in order to enter or leave a
place.

Gossip n. to talk about other people or about things that are not

Homeless adj. without a place to live.

Huge adj. Extremely large, enormous.

Mate n. a partner, a friend.

Melt v. to change a solid substance into a liquid, or to be changed from a solid into
a liquid: Melt the butter in a small saucepan.

Metal n. any of a variety of natural materials that conduct heat and electricity and
have certain properties, such as steel, aluminum and gold.

Motor n. rotating machine that transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy.

Mountain biking n. to ride somewhere on a bike.

Movie n. a story in the form of moving pictures on a screen in a theater or on


television.

Natural adj. existing in nature, and not produced by people: This clothe is made
from natural fibers.

Neigborhood n. a particular area of a town.

Online adj. connected to or available through a computer or a computer network
such as the internet.

Optimistic adj. Someone who is optimistic is hopeful about the future and tends to
expect that good things will happen.

Outgoing adj. Someone who is outgoing is friendly and enjoys meeting and talking
to people.

Ozone n. type of oxygen that exists high in the Earth´s atmosphere.

Ozone layer n. a layer of Ozone in the Earth´s atmosphere that protects the Earth
from the harmful effects of the Sun.

Pick up (phrasal verb) to take something (an object) from the floor. To give a lift to
somebody.

Pole n. one of the points on the very top or bottom of the Earth, called the North
Pole and the South Pole.

Polite adj. behaving toward other people in a pleasant way that follows all the usual
rules of society.

Pollution n. chemicals and other substances that have a harmful effect on air
water, or land.

Poster n. a large printed notice or picture that you put on the wall for decoration or
to advertise something.

Pull v. to move someone or somebody toward you using your hands.

Pulley n. an apparatus consisting of wheel over which a rope or chain is stretched.

Push v. to move someone or something away from you using your hands.

Rainforest n. a forest in a tropical region of the world where it rains a lot.

Ramp n. a slope connecting two levels of a building or road.

Recycle v. to treat waste materials so that they can be used again.

Rubber n. an elastic substance, either obtained from a tree or synthetic.

Safe adj. not likely to be harmed, lost or stolen.

Selfish adj. thinking only about yourself and not caring about other people.

Scene n. a part of a play, book, movie, etc. in which events happen in the same
place or period of time: a love scene.

Scientist n. Someone who is trained in science, especially someone whose job is


to do scientific research.

Skateboard n. a board with four wheels on the bottom that you stand on and ride.

Shaft n. a vertical opening or passage through the floors of a building.

Shopping n. the activity of going to a store to buy things: I don´t like shopping very
much.

Stairs n. a set of steps that allow you to go from one level of a building to another.

Soap opera n. a television or radio series about the imaginary lives of a group of
people.

Somewhere adj. used for referring to a place when you do not know or do not say
exactly where: I think I´ve seen you somewhere before.

Species n. plant or animal group whose members all have similar general features
and are able to produce young plants or animals together: the human species, over
120 species of birds have been recorded in the National Park.

Song n. a piece of music with words that you sing.

Spray n. a liquid that is forced out of a container in very small drops when you push
a button on it.

Staff n. the people who work for a particular company,organization, or institution.

Stubborn adj. not willing to change your ideas or decisions: Stop being son
stubborn!

Subway n. a railroad that goes under the ground.

Sundown n. the time when the sun goes below the horizon = sunset.

Survive v. to continue to exist or live in a difficult situation.

Switch over v. a complete change from one thing to another.

Take over (phrasal verb) a situation in which one person, company or country
takes control of another company, country or event.

Technology n. advanced scientific knowledge that is used for practical purposes,


especially in industry: Computer / military technology.

Thriller n. a book, play, or movie that tells an exciting story.

Tiring adj. making you feel tired.

Top n. piece of clothing.

Trouser n. a pant. A piece of clothing.

Virtual adj. created or shown by computers, or existing on computers or on the
internet: a virtual community.

Wagon n. a covered vehicle with four wheels that is usually pulled by horses. A
small open cart with four wheels and a long handle, used by children as a toy.

message.

Warm adj fairly hot in a comfortable, pleasant way.

Waste n. waste substances are what is left of something after the valuable parts of
it have been used.

Website n. a place on the internet where information is available about a particular


subject, company, university, etc.

Wedge n. a piece of wood, rubber or metal that has one thick end and one narrow
sharp end, used for instance, to split wood or rock or to keep things apart.

Western adj. in the west of a place.

Wheel n. a circular frame that is capable of turning on an axle.

Wheelbarrow n. a large open container with a wheel in the front and handles in the
back. You use it outside for moving things such as dirt, wood, or supplies.

Win v. to defeat everyone else by being the best, or by finishing first in a


competition.

Wise adj. a wise action or decision is sensible and shows that you have good
judgment: you made a wise decision when you chose to study Spanish.

Wreck v. to destroy or damage something badly. An accident that involves a


vehicle such as a car, plane, ship etc..
