The Innovator visa category is for experienced businessperson who are desirous of
establishing a business in the UK.

The funds required for this category are £50,000.

The Innovator visa category is a 2 stage process;


Stage 1: The applicant is required to get endorsement from an endorsing body. These could
be private or governmentally regulated bodies; and
Stage 2: Entry Clearance

At Stage 1 the endorsing body would assess the applicant on 3 aspects;


1. Innovation – must provide an original business plan substantiating market
requirements and competition of the applicant in the UK.
2. Viability – must have the necessary skill set, experience and knowledge of the
market and domain.
3. Scalability – must demonstrate that the business would create potential jobs in the
UK and enforce growth in the market.
For the abovementioned purposes, the applicant is required to prepare Business Plan,
concept notes and other supporting documents they are also required to have £945 for a
period of 90 consecutive days in your bank account towards maintenance funds. Whilst £
50,000 is required for the investment funds in the business.
Once the Entry Clearance is granted, the applicant is required to submit a progress report to
the endorsing body at an interval of 6 months. The endorsing body in turn will file the same
with the Home Office.

English Language requirement

Applicants need to evidence meeting English language requirement to CEFR Level B2.

The Entry Clearance for this visa application is granted for a period of 3 years. At the Further
Leave to Remain stage the applicant can apply for an accelerated settlement and gain
Indefinite Leave to Remain. This depends upon various requirements like progress, growth,
job creation etc. However, if the applicant does not seek accelerated settlement then he can
apply for an extension which would be granted for a period of another 3 years.

Applicants in the Innovator category will be able to apply for settlement (Indefinite Leave to
Remain) after three years provided they are able to show they meet at least two of the
following requirements:
 At least £50,000 has been invested into the business and actively spent furthering the
business plan assessed in the applicant’s previous endorsement.
 The number of the business’s customers has at least doubled within the most recent
three years and is currently higher than the mean number of customers for other UK
businesses offering comparable products or services.
 The business has engaged in significant research and development activity and has
applied for intellectual property protection in the UK.
 The business generated annual gross revenue of at least £1 million in the last full year
covered by its accounts.
 The business has generated annual gross revenue of at least £500,000 in the last full
year covered by its accounts including at least £100,000 from exporting overseas.
 The business has created the equivalent of at least 10 full-time jobs for resident
workers.
 The business has created the equivalent of at least 5 full-time jobs for resident
workers, which have an average salary of at least £25,000 a year (gross pay,
excluding any expenses).
For all visa applications as part of the enhanced health screening process, migrants who will
be in the UK for more than 6 months [on any visa category] will be required to undergo pre-
entry TB Test, in support of their application.
