Complete the intro by selecting the appropriate statistical vocabulary in the blanks.

This study was conducted to explore whether perception of money by preschool age children
is in uenced by their family wealth. This was investigated by testing how the children would
recall the size of a coin, with the assumption that the size recalled related to the value placed
on the coin.

To conduct the study, children were randomly selected, equally from three local day-care
facilities specializing in preschool age. Consent forms were sent home to the parents of the
kids, which also asked parents for their average yearly household income. Since children
were equally selected from the three facilities, this is random stratified sampling. The

income data collected was quantitative data at the ratio level


of measurement

From the parents who consented, the children were divided into two groups: those whose
family income was greater than $40,000, and those whose family income was less than
$40,000.

Each child was asked to draw a nickel. The resulting circle?s diameter was then measured.
When the shape drawn was not a perfect circle, the largest and smallest diameters were
averaged. The coin diameter data was quantitative data at the ratio
level of measurement.

The gender of each child was also collected. This data was qualitative data at
the nominal level of measurement.

It is hypothesized that children from lower income families would draw larger coins than
children from higher income families.

then opening Excel, clicking on a blank cell, and selecting Paste from the Edit menu.

You can use your calculator or some other kind of technology to compute the values

You can try to compute them all by hand (I do not recommend this option). When dealing
with research statistics it is very common to utilize a computer aid (either calculator or
system like excel).

PLEASE give your answers to at least 3 decimal places accuracy. Keep the data in Excel, as you
will need this information again in later questions.

Compute the following summary statistics

a) The mean for the low income group is: 23.3500

c) The standard deviation for the low income group is: 4.7043

d) The mean for the high income group is: 19.9429

e) The median for the high income group is: 21.0000

f) The standard deviation for the high income group is: 4.0216

g) Create a graphical representation of the data from both groups. Choose a graph type that
is appropriate for the data, and that helps you compare the two groups. Submit this graph
in BlackBoard.
