intimidated by Word Work. It took me hours to
come up with resources, and I was inconsistent.
After many years in the classroom, I learned how
to do a much better job! I’ve created this resource
a few years ago, and I’ve had a huge success
rate with my students!
What you are downloading is a 2- w eek sample
of a 30-week program that is fool-proof.
It introduces 2 word families each week and has
reviews throughout the year.
The words are incorporated into original stories
and used in writing activities.
I hope you en joy.

Stuck in Traffic short a - 37

Zack was all set to go to school. He had grabbed a snack, shut the
front door, and hopped in his mom’s truck. To Zack, going to school was an
adventure! He loved learning about graphs, fractions, and maps. He also
loved his teacher, Mr. Tucker.
Mr. Tucker was hilarious! He cracked jokes and did magic tricks. He
always carried a plum colored mug with lemon flavored water, and made a
funny noise when he drank from it.
But today Zack was out of luck. Unexpected ugly dark clouds dumped
rain on the ground. His truck was stuck in traffic and that could not be
undone. The cars on the road were snuggled so closely they could almost
bump! If Zack couldn’t get past this traffic he would end up being absent!
What a catastrophe!
Suddenly, a loud noise pierced Zack’s ears. Could it be the sound of a
fire truck approaching? Could it be an ambulance? No! It was Zack’s alarm
clock going off! The whole thing was just a dream that he snapped out of in
no time! At last Zack was glad!

Miss Jill worked at the school’s front desk. One of her jobs was to

down the hallway. One time, she helped me untie a knot on my shoe. She never
yelled even if students made a mess!
Miss Jill did her job really well, but today she felt ill. Her skin was hot and
her hands were sweaty. She wondered how long she would have to sit, and
wished that she could stop the throbbing pain in her head. Miss Jill looked at
the clock and realized that it was still too early to quit. She decided to ask Mr.
Bill for a pain pill.
Mr. Bill lived a block away in a beautiful house with a pond where ducks
liked to swim, and plants grew between the rocks. His garden was filled with
birds nests. Mr. Bill was in his shed in the back getting clippers to trim his
hedges. He had just stepped out when he heard the phone ring. “Yes, Miss Jill. I
will bring you the pill. Let me put on my socks and clip on my tie. I’ll be right by!”
What a thrill this was for Miss Jill! Soon, she wouldn’t feel ill!
