How I will lead my IT team?

My name is Nabeel Munir and I will describe about leading my IT team. We all have
heard this famous phrase saying that, “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to
go far, go together”. Most often, the greatness in a great team starts from the leader,
the one who sets the standards. Being a team leader, you are not just a person but, you
become a role model for people that work for you and also for the people that see
you, you could inspire many people through you behavior and through your work.
Being a team leader does not just mean to give tasks and wait for the output from
other person, It also means to have confidence on your team and to give them
confidence if something goes wrong. A team leader must take his/her whole team
together. Give freedom to your team and not make them feel bounded. Trust your
team and build trust between the team, are some key responsibilities of a team leader.

Being a team leader, I will first Give my team the freedom to use their talents. Because,
If you want a great team, if you want happy people, you have to praise them and
acknowledge them and praise them some more. When you let your team know you're
aware of what they can be and what they can become, that is when you can begin
reaping the benefit of their growing greatness.

I will Encourage My team to talk and be a good active listener. People want to be
heard, really heard, and not patronized. Oftentimes, instead of listening to someone in
a conversation, people are really just waiting for an opportunity to speak. If this is an
area where you struggle, one trick is to say “What I understand you’re saying is…”
By repeating what you understand the other person to be saying, it forces you to
really listen to what they are saying. And as a side benefit, it reinforces to the speaker
that you truly are listening to them and respect what they have to say.

If I need a team member to do some work, I would ask them like I am asking for their
help, even if that task is due to that person. This is because, people like to help, I will
make that person feel like, they are helping me and our team by doing this task.
No one likes to be given order, even that order comes from the CEO, People will
always feel this behavior.

If a team member has made a mistake, then, instead of telling him/her in the public or
in front of other team members, I will correct their mistake in private because in
public, people always feel ashamed and bad.

I will Be genuinely interested in other people and make them feel important.
everyone’s favorite primary subject is themselves, its human nature. As a team leader,
I must Be respectful of other people’s ideas and opinions. Try to see things from their
point of view. When you try to understand another person’s point of view you may
find that you learn something. But even if you don’t, you will still find it much easier
to respect the people with whom you disagree.

Sometimes even If I am wrong, I will be honest and humble enough to admit it.
Set a high bar for people and let them know you believe in their ability to succeed is
also something really important as a team leader. I will set clear goals and make sure
that all my team members understand.
Employees need to trust their leaders. One of the key factors in whether an employee
stays with their current employer is that the employee has confidence and trust that
the leaders know what they are doing. This confidence gives employees the control
they need for their livelihood and supporting their family.

I will not try to be the boss but, instead, I will prefer and always try to be the leader.
Because being a leader is most respectful and better than being a boss. Being a boss
can be trust losing and setting a bad example for others, sometimes. A leader should
always try to be kind and gentle.

Find a Management Strategy and Stick to it. There is nothing worse than a boss that
keeps changing his or her opinions and assignments depending on their mood or a
book they read this week. Chaotic decisions increase the insecurity and frustration of
your team, so you better find your strategy and stick to it.
One of the thing that I should do as a team leader is that, Demand Learning from my
Team. There is a famous quote that,

“The key for a company going through rapid growth is to empower


your employees’ self-development.”

As a team leader, It is my responsibility to point out if someone has done good work
and reward them. Once the work is done, Thanking my team is a must and inviting
them for a party so, they can have some relaxation from the hard work they have
done, They have earned it and they must get it.

I will always try to keep myself calm because when I am a team leader, I am setting
an example for other people. People will get affected by my personality and my
behavior in many ways and it is my responsibility to make sure that the affect comes
in good ways and not in bad ways.
