Look at given figure and say the colour and not
read the word.
Q1) While playing the game what were you doing actually?
Q2) Was this confusing? Was your brain put to
test?
Okay!! Let’s learn about

Brain and its functions.

Q3) How would you control yourselves in times of angry,
temptations and etc.?
Q4) What do you think is the reason why we can control
ourselves?
Does your brain remind you of anything that can be eaten?
• The brain is an amazing
three-pound organ
protected within the skull,
that controls all functions of
the body, interprets
information from the
outside world.

• Intelligence, creativity,
emotion, and memory are a
few of the many things
governed by the brain.
Q5) How many parts do you observe in this figure 5? Name
them.
Q6) Which is the largest part in figure?
Q7) How many hemispheres are there in the fig 6?
Q8) How many lobes do you observes in the given figure?
• The brain is composed of the cerebrum,
cerebellum, and brainstem.

• Cerebrum: is the largest part of the

brain. The cerebrum is divided into two
halves: the right and left hemispheres.
• The cerebrum is divided into four lobes:
frontal, parietal, occipital and temporal.

• Cerebellum: is located under the

cerebrum.

• Brainstem: acts as a relay centre

connecting the cerebrum and
cerebellum to the spinal cord.
Evaluation

Q9) What the girl is doing in the given figure?
Q10) What do you observe in the figure?
Q11) What do you observe by the given figure?
Therefore,
Cerebrum performs higher functions like
interpreting touch, vision, reasoning,
emotions, learning, and fine control of
movement.

Cerebellum function is to coordinate

muscle movements, maintain posture,
and balance.

Brain stem performs many automatic

functions such as breathing, heart rate,
body temperature, wake and sleep
cycles, digestion, sneezing, coughing,
vomiting, and swallowing. Brain stem is
also called medulla oblangata.
Q12) What do you observe in the figure?
Q13) What do you observe in the figure?
The cerebrum is divided into two
halves: the right and left hemispheres.

They are joined by a bundle of fibres

called the corpus callosum that
transmits messages from one side to
the other.

Left hemisphere controls speech,

comprehension, arithmetic, and
writing.

Right hemisphere controls creativity,

spatial ability, artistic, and musical
skills.
Evaluation

1. The cerebellum is located between the cerebrum and the

brain stem in the back of the head. It helps in __________

a) Breathing and controlling blood pressure

b) Balance and coordination
c) Voluntary movement
d) Speech and hearing

Q14) Observe the given figure and guess which part is called
the frontal lobe?
Q15) What is the sum of the given solution?
Let’s do an activity!!

Quickly raise you right hand.

Frontal lobe controls-
• Personality
• behaviour
• emotions
• Judgment
• planning
• problem solving
• Speech: speaking and writing
• Body movement (motor strip)
• Intelligence
• concentration
• self-awareness.
Q16) Observe the gin figure and name the highlighted pink
part of the brain.
Okay Students!!

Pinch yourself as hard as you can.

Q17) Did that hurt? Did you sense any pain?
So, parietal lobe performs the
following functions-

• Interprets language, words

• Sense of touch, pain,
temperature (sensory strip)
• Interprets signals from vision,
hearing, motor, sensory and
memory
• Spatial and visual perception
Let’s do one more activity !!

Listen the statement, memorize it well and repeat it later

Jack will cycle to the market and

bring tomatoes for his mother.
Therefore, temporal lobe helps
in-

• Understanding language
• Memory
• Hearing
• Sequencing and
organization
Let’s do an interesting task!!

In this given picture find at least 6 hidden words in 10 seconds.

Therefore, occipital lobe helps to interprets vision (colour,
light, movement).
