BRAKE TEST
Conditions

 Brake test must only be done within an area where it cannot cause accidents (risk of being run into from behind
etc.).
 Acceptable values can only be obtained if the test is carried out on dry asphalt, dry concrete or other similar
surfaces.
 Make sure that the working area around the machine is clear from people.
 The machine must not be loaded.

Service brake, checking

Carry out the brake test as required. Always use the seat belt when using the machine.

1. The service (foot) brake should stop the machine at a speed of 32 km/h (20 mph) within 16 m (54 ft 6 in), or from a
speed of 40 km/h (25 mph) within a distance of 22 m (72 ft).
2. If the machine does not stop within these distances, troubleshoot and repair the service brake system.

Parking brake, checking

Carry out the brake test as required. Always use the seat belt when using the machine.

1. Start the engine.

2. Apply the parking brake. The parking brake control lamp illuminates on the side console.
3. Select the 3rd gear and move the forward/reverse lever to forward.
4. Increase the speed of the engine to 1500 rpm. If the machine does not move, the parking brake is working
correctly.
5. If the machine moves, troubleshoot and repair the parking brake system.

Service brake, description 520 Service Information 2014/3/18
Profile:
BHL, BL71 PLUS [GB]

Service brake, description

The service brake is a hydraulic brake system. The brakes, wet disc brakes with automatic wear adjustment, are located in the
rear axle.
The brake system consists of a boosted twin cylinder auto compensating self bleeding brake valve which regulates the
pressure in the brake circuit. Oil is supplied to the brake system from the transmission oil pump.

Figure 1
Brake valve

1. Connection to left–hand brake

2. Connection to right–hand brake
3. Tank line
4. Pressure line

There are two brake pedals. The left–hand brake is operated by the left pedal. The right–hand brake is operated by the right
pedal. The pedals can be locked together by a steel locking bar.
Each brake pedal activates a master cylinder in the brake valve. An integral balance pipe in the brake valve balances the oil
pressure for both brakes.
The brake valve is connected to the rear axle, where the oil–immersed multi-discs are activated.
With 3rd or 4th gear selected, the four wheel drive will be engaged automatically to transmit the brake action to the front
axle.
The cooling of the brakes is achieved by the oil in the axle and the surface area of the axle itself.

Parking brake, description

The parking brake is operated mechanically. The brake is fitted to the rear axle's input shaft. It consists of one external brake
disc which directly affects the drive shaft.
The parking brake is applied by moving the parking brake lever upwards. The brake lever is connected by a cable to the
parking brake asembly.
The parking brake is released by lifting the release catch situated on the underside of the parking brake lever.

Parking brake, adjusting

Op nbr 550-002

The parking brake cable may be adjusted to change the play of the parking brake lever.

1. Place the machine in service position one, see 173 Service positions.

2. Move the hand brake lever to the downward position. Make sure that the pin is in contact with the slot stop. If not,
unscrew the rotating handle until this is achieved.
NOTE!
The hand brake lever may sometimes be in interference with the side plastic panel when in the downward position.
Cut it, if necessary.

3. Ensure that the lever is in the neutral position.

4. Screw, or unscrew the clevis on the cable, in order to allow the lock pin to be engaged easily on the lever. The holes
should align.

5. Loosen the two adjustment locking nuts.

6. Tighten the inner adjustment nut, until firm contact is made with the disc by the linings. Torque to 160–170 N·m
(118–125 lbf·ft).

7. Back off the inner adjustment nut 1 turn. Check that the disc can move freely.

8. Tighten the outer locking nut against the inner adjustment nut. To lock the adjustment bolt into place, torque to
62–76 N·m (45–56 lbf·ft).

9. Adjust the effort of the hand brake lever while rotating the handle, in order to get the desired braking sufficiency.

10. Engage the hand brake.

11. Select the 3rd gear and accelerate with the throttle pedal. The machine should start to move when the engine
reaches 1500 r/min.

12. Place the machine back in service.

Thank you for your purchase.
Have a nice day.
