(Daniel S.)

Audience (ahoy, captain)

Captain Welcome to 3B’s class assembly…our theme to our assembly is…

(Daniel S.)
ALL: Stand up and shout: “PIRATES! Arrrrrrrrr”
(Slide 1)

Captain I will be tellin’ ‘ye some jokes to stop ye from plundering me loot…
(Daniel S.)
Why does it take pirates so long to learn the alphabet?
Because they can spend years at C!
(Bradley on cymbals & James P. on drum)
(slide 2)

Now onto our show!

James P. We all graduated from pirate school after being trained by Captain
Blanchbeard, back in April.
(slide 3)

James V. When we came into school after Easter, we were shocked and scared
when we noticed a pirate ship appeared in our classroom and our
pirate teacher was inside!
(Slide 4)

Amber We were all dressed as pirates for the day. We practised our evil glares
and pirate stares. Here are some of our favourites…
(Slides with photos from immersion) –
(Slides 5 onwards…)
(Fashion by D. Bowie) Fashion parade/show with pirate actions…

James & Joel...
(slide 6)

Jake We learnt about famous pirate ships, captains and their flags. We then
created our own ship-names and flags for our tables places based on
real-life galleons…we chose:
- Black Jokes Revenge
- Night Rambler
- Sudden Death
- and Death Watch!

We also created our own miniature flags on the back of our larger table
flag, using what we have learnt…
(slide 6)

Captain Show ‘em your flags then!

(Children then turn their flags around)

Ollie We also learnt some pirate phrases at pirate school. We shall translate
some of them into your pesky ‘Queen’s English’ to help you...

Max “Ahoy!”
Leah (Queen) Hello
Max “Avast ye!”
Leah (Queen) Stop and pay attention!
Max “Batten down the hatches!”
Leah (Queen) Beware and prepare – a storm is coming our way!
Max “Thar she blows!”
Leah (Queen) Oh look, a whale!
Max …and me personal favourite, “Splice the mainbrace!”
Leah (Queen) Give the crew a drink!

Leelu We created some ‘wanted’ posters about pirates. Here are some
examples we are all proud of.
(Slide 7)
Poster 1: Keerthi Read her wanted poster.

So, did you know…?

Billy Pirates have been around for hundreds of years and they are still
around in some parts of the world today! They were most active in the
17th and 18th century.

Arron Pirates attacked ships at sea, or towns and villages along the cost,
plundering and looting for treasure, supplies or any other precious
cargo they wanted…

Max Did you know pirates had such a bad diet they often caught a disease
called scurvy. This meant they often lost their sight or had to have
some of their limbs chopped off…(all say “ouch). We then learnt about
the importance of a varied diet in being fit and healthy, learning about
the crucial roles of protein, carbohydrates, fats, milks, fruits and
vegetables as part of a varied diet.

Jasmine Did you know pirates designed their own flags, often decorated with
skulls and cross-bones. These were to scare their victims and provide
their clan with an identity. If a pirate ship flies a red flag, it meant they
were extremely dangerous and would kill everyone in an attack!

Dan F. In art, we learnt how to relief print using card, string and acrylic paints.
We then created our own repeated-pattern pirate-flag designs…

Captain Show ‘em some of your flags, crew!

(children hold up their table flags).

Captain Lovely, aren’t they?

OK, are you ready for another joke?

Why did the pirate go to the Apple store?

To buy an iPatch! (Aye Patch)

Jamie With such nasty crew members, pirates had to live by a code of
conduct to be kept in line. The punishments are so gruesome to make
them follow the rules…such as…
(Slide 9)
James F. If any man shall suggest to run away, or keep secret from the crew...
Sarah He shall be marooned with one bottle of powder, one bottle of water
and a pistol.
Keerthi If a crew mate shall steal any treasure…

Oliver He shall be marooned or shot.
Billy If any man has a fight on board…
Leah He shall receive the Law of Moses (that is 40 lashes minus 1) on his
back

Amber We have used drama in our creative writing lots this term. We wrote
our own ships log about being at sea…

Ships log 1: Max Read…

/ Jake
Ships log 2: Read…
Grace
Ships log 3: Jake Read…

Grace Now onto some saddening news…

On the first day back after half term, Mrs Hoare burst into our
classroom, telling us we had an urgent delivery. We were shocked to
receive this black spot, telling us our treasure has been stolen!
(Everyone gasps – Dan holds the spot).
(Slide 10)
We looked for the treasure all over the place, but still cannot find it!

Joel We are in the process of creating our own newspaper reports to help
us track down the dastardly pirate who has dared to plunder our
booty! Watch this space!

Captain One final joke before a good ‘ol sea shanty, I think!

How much did the pirate pay for his peg leg and hook?
An arm and a leg!

Jamie We learned all about sea shanties and how they were used to keep the
pirates merrier and maintain their rhythm when they were doing their
boring and horrible day-to-day tasks, like scrubbing the deck until their
hands bled. We have prepared one just for you…

Captain CALL IN THE PRISONER

(James P. gets Bradley with Mr Newbold’s face on tied up)!

ALL: What do you do with a naughty Newbold sea shanty…

Bradley / Mr. Thank you for listening to our pirate assembly – now keep your
Newbold valuables safe!
