To make X-bar, R chart of subgroup data in Minitab.

Objective:
 To learn about X-bar, R chart drawing in Minitab software.

Introduction:
X-bar and R chart:
The  and R chart is a type of control chart used to monitor variables data when samples are
collected at regular intervals from a business or industrial process.
The chart is advantageous in the following situations.

1. The sample size is relatively small (say, n ≤ 10- are typically used for larger sample
sizes)
2. The sample size is constant
3. Humans must perform the calculations for the chart
4. The  and R chart plots the mean value for the quality characteristic across all units in the
sample, , plus the range of the quality characteristic across all units in the sample as
follows:
R = xmax - xmin.

Steps to make X-bar R charts in Minitab:

1) Inter data to minitab software as shown in fig:10.1

2) Now click statistics=>Control charts=>variable charts for subgroups=>x-bar R charts

3) Now you will get a table then select data and click ok you will get the control chart.

 4) By clicking ok you will get the X-bar R chart.

Observation and results:

We can see that it is easy to draw the X-bar R charts in Minitab as compared to other software
like excel sheet etc.

Conclusion:
It is very important lab after attending this lab we are able to use Minitab software
for making of X-bar R charts.
