I. DISCUSS ANY
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN
E UNIT SIMILARITIES OR
BIOETHICS AND
HEALTHCARE ETHICS
In today’s scenario, the 1 advancement in the medical
field and challenges faced by the clinicians are increasing at
the same pace that ethical
considered. Both Bioethics and TASKS issues are always to be
Healthcare ethics are concerned
about the application of ethical implications in the field of
medicine and healthcare. They both involve the consideration
of the benefits and harm that a person may experience. Bioethics, as defined is a field of study
concerned with the ethics and philosophical implications of certain biological and medical
procedures, technologies and treatments, as organ transplants, genetic engineering, and care of
the terminally ill while healthcare ethics is concerned with different decision making situations
in the field of medicine in addition to the procedures and policies that are designated to guide the
practice. Technically speaking, bioethics has generally more to do with theoretical ethical issues
and concepts surrounding all biomedical technologies, such as cloning, stem cell therapy,
xenotransplantation and the use of animals in research. It is a wider range of study than because
it involves the morality of all the life forms from its conception up to its death. On the other
hand, healthcare ethics only involves regulating the human conduct in the practice of healthcare
so that the delivery of healthcare can be ensured. It is more specific and focuses on the medical
treatment of humans in particular.

II. WHY DO WE NEED TO STUDY BIOETHICS AND HEALTHCARE ETHICS?

Being a nurse comes with dealing with ethical issues and dilemmas with the progression
of life science and technology. Bioethics as an academic discipline and social institution carries
out extensive work to combat negative trends in modern medicine and protect the humanitarian
values of medical activity. Nurses must uphold the four key principles in bioethics which are
autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence and justice to ensure the safety of our patients. It is
important to study bioethics and healthcare ethics so that we will know what are the right things
to be done in order to deliver our profession properly. Having extensive knowledge about ethical
processes will also relieve the nagging doubts and will enable us to proceed with our care plan.

III. DISCUSS THE ORIGIN OF MAN IN TERMS OF 3 MAJOR VIEWS.

The Origin of Man has 3 Major views; Evolution, Theistic evolution and Creationism.
Evolution, as formulated by Charles Darwin is the process of gradual change in terms of
heritable physical and behavioral traits in all forms of life over generations. It is purely based on
naturalism which does not involve any supernatural occurrences or divine interventions. It is
based on the continuous mutation of genes over time and the survival of the fittest. The phrase
“survival of the fittest” is connected with the mechanism of natural selection in which those
organisms who can thrive in the changing environment will be able to live and those who are in
the higher level of food chain will be able to survive through generations.

The second theory is the Theistic Evolution which is a view that regards religious
teachings about God as compatible with modern scientific understanding about biological
evolution. A conception about this theory is that God has caused continuous and gradual
biological change represented by the Darwinian’s theory of evolution. It is a combination of the
theory of evolution and creationism.

The third one is the Creationism which is the religious belief that nature, and aspects such
as the universe, Earth, life, and humans, originated with supernatural acts of divine creation
where God is the absolute creator of everything. It relies purely on the biblical revelations which
states that “God created man in His image from the dust of the ground” (Genesis 1:27; 2:7).

IV. DISCUSS THE ORIGIN OF MAN IN CHRISTIAN ANTHROPOLOGY.

Christian anthropology is the study of humanity from a biblical perspective. It is the

branch of theological study that investigates the origin, nature, and destiny of humans and of the
universe in which they live. It is also concerned with the relationship between notions such as
body, soul and spirit which together form a person, based on their descriptions in the Bible. This
theory focuses on the duality of man- having both material and immaterial aspects. The material
aspect being the human’s physical and tangible existence (body) which Christians have
traditionally believed the body will be resurrected at the end of the age while the immaterial
refers to the human person as created in the image and likeness of God that is composed of
intangible aspects: soul, spirit, intellect, will, and conscience. The soul is believed to be the
man’s walk with the world or the invisible force that gives life and motion to the body which is
bound to the world. The spirit refers to man’s walk with God with spiritual function—to contact
and receive God Himself. Once we receive the Lord into our spirit by believing in Him, we can
live our human lives in continuous contact with the Lord by using our spirit.
