TP107: Professional & Christian ethics

Topic: Bioethics.

Bioethics come from Greek words which means life and it has relational means custom “ethos.” On the
one hand, Ethics is a branch of philosophy that studies the right and wrong of human actions. Bioethics
is the application of the principle of ethics to the field of medicine and healthcare. Broadly construed
bioethics, as applied ethics, is defined as the ethics of life. It is concern with the ethical issues that arise
from the emergence and development in the life sciences, such as biotechnology and medicine. Some of
these ethical issues include, abortion, suicide, artificial insemination, contraction, organ donation,
allocation of healthcare resource. And so as we can see, bioethics address the morality of these ethical
issues using appropriate ethical theories, such as Christian ethics, utilitanan ethics and Kantian ethics.
For example, a bioethics may argue that abortion is immoral because, using Kantian ethics, it treats the
human person as a reason rather than an end. As an applying ethics, bioethics applies the principles of
ethics to the field of medical and health care. Now some of the vital principle that will be disused are
stewardship, respect for person, non-maleficence, beneficence, justice, and autonomy. In the following
paragraphs will further elaborate more on the points listed.
