POLIO

The bad impact of polio disease in Papua New Guinea.

Polio is a disease that endangers life and makes weaken the body and is caused by the poliovirus. It
often spreads by contact with an infected person's feces. For instance, improper hand washing, putting
your hands in your mouth, or tainted food or drink. While less common, it can also spread through
sneezes and coughs. Some people may argue that the disease becomes an important mode of imparting
in developing countries like Papua New Guinea. The following paragraphs will elaborate on the
widespread outbreak of the polio disease in PNG.

Firstly, polio could not be cured. It can cause disability and can lead to death as well, due to no proper
immunization and vaccination being delivered to sick and disabled patients. As wrong treatment and
injection are carried out by the healthcare professional. “In several instances, health workers’ children
have inadvertently used a drug instead of a diluted and children have died, or much diluent had been
added by mistake” (Davey,2003). As a result, the most serious polio symptom, paralysis, can result in
both death and permanent disability.

Secondly, there are improper government funds in Health Department in PNG. It lacks the recovery of
patients infected with polio disease. “Lack of hospital facilities will mean that many will be condemned
to crawling on the ground, and deformities and contractures will result” (Huckstep,1979). Hand result is
the patients face difficulty in suitable support and remaining untreated leads to permanent paralysis.
That is why to prevent this government should fund huge amounts of money in Health Authority
Department in the county to carry out the program effectively.
Thirdly, the liability is very low to minimize the cost of that disease in PNG. That’s why it is very
important to argue for the good of human welfare. “Manufacturers of vaccines would always be in
danger of liability if governments did not shield them from liability for damage. As a result, vaccine
producers may be less inclined to create and market them” (Edward. J. 2012). If the government fails to
intervene in such a situation concerning humanity, the disease will increase rapidly.

Finally, the spread of polio disease is very fast from person to person. It affects the hygiene of human
beings when contact with infected patients. It is also affected by the contaminated water and feces of
the infected patients. “The poliovirus spreads between people through feces or oral contact. In places
with poor sanitation and hygiene, the fecal-oral pathway is the primary route of transmission” (Estvarizi.
2021.). The hand result is polio cause disability and destroys lives. “A youngster who contracts the illness
may become badly paralyzed or possibly pass away” (Kyain, 2019).

To conclude, effective vaccination is important for the outbreak of polio disease for successful
prevention in PNG. I suggest the disease will be recovered if better hospital facilities are available and
well-educated health professionals conduct the programs. Therefore, the government should take extra
care by funding money for Health Organizations in the county as a whole.
