A.

Role of CGS office, Mumbai

Chief, Geophysical Services is the overall functional head of Regional Geophysical Services
of Mumbai,Chennai,Vadodara,Kolkata,Jorhat and Dehradun, and is stationed at Mumbai.
Each regional Geophysical Services is led by Head Geophysical Service and functionally
reports to ED-CGS.

The office of Chief Geophysical Services is responsible for planning and implementation of
Annual Seismic work programme for Acquisition and Processing, procurement of spares for
seismic recording systems and associated ground electronics for departmental field parties,
procurement of new equipment, finalizing AMC contracts of Softwares under use across
different work centers in ONGC including Assets, through MAP section, Dehradun.

Major activities of CGS office

 Planning and implementation of Seismic work programme


 Performance Contract with Director(E) to meet the exploration needs
 Service Level Agreements with Basin Managers for completion of Seismic data
acquisition and processing targets of various Basins as per the approved Work
Programmes.
 Performance contracts with Head Geophysical Services
 Monitor the performance of Regional Geophysical Services through VCBs
 Issuance of clarifications and guidelines in all technical matters
 Issuance of guideline on matters related to Corporate Policy
 Induction of New Technology/up gradation of resources
 Centralized procurement of Equipment/spares/accessories etc for Geophysical
Parties across ONGC
 Centralized AMC of corporate/site specific Software in use at different work centres
across ONGC
 Cost control measures through better/optimum utilization of existing resources
 Provide inputs for career development, job rotation, transfer and training
 Compliance of HSE related issues in Geophysical Parties

B. Role of MAPSection, Dehradun

Material Acquisition and Procurement (MAP) section stationed at Dehradun is headed by


GM (GP) with L-II powers and reports to ED-CGS.

Major activities of MAP Section of Geophysical Services:


 Centralised procurement of Hardware and Software for different
basins/institutes, Geophysical Services at Dehradun, Vadodara, Chennai,
Jorhat and Kolkata and their associated Regional Computer Centres.
Hardware items include Seismic and VSP data recording systems and their
spares, Field Processing Units, Survey equipment and hardware and
software for regional computer centres and interpretation centres of basins,
GEOPIC and SPIC.
 Centralized Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC) of Hardware and software
for basins, and institutes e.g. GEOPIC, KDMIPE etc.,
 Coordination between various work centres and office of CGS for finalization
of scope of work, tender specifications and BEC etc.
 Tender Processing
 Compilation/Reporting of nomination cases of all the work centres under
exploration
