The fundamental goal of adding glass beads in pavement markings is to increase the safety of
pilots, motorists, and pedestrians most notably at night. Moreover, the researchers seek to find
1. Why do contractors prefer glass bead pavement markings than regular paints?
2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using glass bead pavement markings?
II. OBJECTIVES
This study on Usage of Glass Waste as an Alternative Glass Beads for Thermoplastic in Civil
2. To discuss the current and future condition of glass bead pavement markings.
3. To determine the potential risks ad hazard to human health and to the environment
markings.
III. S-W-O-T ANALYSIS
A. Strength
Cheaper price
Environment Friendly
Less raw materials consumption
Minimize garbage in the society
B. Weaknesses
Inaccessibility of Machinery
Insufficient Market Demand or Advertisement
Lack of Funding’s
Poor knowledge of resident on segregation
C. Opportunities

D. Treats
ACA1: Optimize pavement marking strategy that is performance based while still complying
ACA2: Formulate a pavement marking performance model that can accurately predict the life
cycle of pavement markings to determine when each segment of road needs to be remarked
ACA3: Safety and protection should always be put on top of the line. Proper PPE should be
given to workers and practice proper waste disposal at all times to keep our environment safe as
well.
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
Additional fund, expenses, and time is need in proposing further researches and to run
experiments.
DETAILED PLAN OF ACA2
Advantages:
Maximize the material’s service lifecycle which can eventually reduce costs of
markings.
Disadvantages:
Man power is needed to occasionally check and measure the retroreflectivity level
and if it’s still on the minimum retroreflectivity requirement for pavement markings.
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
Companies producing such materials should abide to proper waste disposal even if it
VI. CONCLUSION
Pavement markings are installed to keep pilots, motorists, and pedestrian safe from harm
while on the road. And the need for safety rises even more at night. Therefore, glass wastes can
serve as an alternative glass beads for thermoplastic in Civil works lane line markings, leading us
to the reduction of glass wastes in dumps, streets, and household and decrease in the cost of
production of pavement markings. This study concludes that we can provide safety on the road
while efficiently using wastes as an effective alternative at low cost.
VII. RECOMMENDATION
The researchers wishes to state the following recommendations for future researches which
are pavement marking retro reflectivity data collection, glass bead density and its effects, and
pavement marking management.
