About This Course

Academic writing course is designed for students of Intermediate. The course aims to
improve student’s academic writing skills. They will learn to write grammatically correct
sentences, combine, and use them in paragraphs. Secondly, they will learn about paragraphs
and organizing paragraphs. On the third stage, they will learn about essays and types of it. By
the end of the course, students will be able to write correct sentences, paragraphs, and essays.
The ultimate goal is to enable students to writing a good argumentative essays and succeed in
exams like TOEFL and IELTS.

By the end of this course, you will be able to,

 To enable students to use various sentence structures in their writing.


 To enable students to write well-structured paragraphs.
 To enable students to write well-organized academic essays.

Course Grading
Students’ performance will be assessed based on:
 Participation 10%
 Assignments 40%
 Final project 20%
 Final Exam 30%
 Total 100%

Course implementation plan:

The course will be implemented in the google classroom. The course will be
conducted by having an online registration conducted by the LLC. Once the list of interested
and eligible candidates is finalized, they will be sent an email through which they will be
invited to attend the class. The teacher in this course will post classwork, assignments,
quizzes and supplementary materials.
There will a lesson every day based on the schedule that follows. The students will be
provided with an engaging activity at the beginning of every session, and they will discuss
their answers in the discussion section afterwards. Then they will be provided with a sample
paragraph or essay as a start to familiarize them with the type of the paragraph or essay they
are going to learn about. After the sample, there will be some follow-up questions that the
students will discuss on another discussion tab. Moreover, the teacher will have them watch
the video and read the assigned pages. Then they will work on the activities which will be
posted along with the main assignment. Furthermore, the teacher will give assignments every
session, check them and return them if necessary. There will be a quiz after each module to
check the students’ understanding of the content discussed. The class will be taught by Zoom
App.

Module title: Introduction to academic writing

Module Objectives:

1. To educate students on what academic writing is and what its difference


is with other types of writing, and importance of academic writing
2. To discuss the layout of a paragraph.
3. To familiarize students with the basics of academic writing.
4. Objective: To enable students to write a well-structured paragraph with a
clear topic sentence, supporting sentences, and concluding sentence.
5. To introduce the types of sentences based on structure and the importance
of variation is sentence structure in academic writing.
6. To enable students to write well-written simple and compound sentences.

Day 4: To introduce parts of a paragraph: Topic sentence, position of topic
sentence, its characteristics, and how to develop one.
Day 5: To discuss supporting sentences, and concluding sentence.
Day 6: To discuss Simple and compound sentences

projects (if necessary), scoring it, and giving the final exam.
