*DISCUSSION

The experiment of flow measurement using different methods was conducted. The goal of
this experiment is to compare between flow measurement by using Venturi tube, Orifice
plate, and Rotameter. The experiment was repeated with different flow rates of rotameter to
obtain comparis on between flow measurement of all three methods.

The height of the water of each manometer which difference in level was recorded. With the
measurement of manometer obtained, the Bernouli Equation were used to calculate the
measurement in (L/min) for the Venturi tube and Orifice plate and was recorded. The reading
of manometer 1 and 2 were used to calculate the flow rate for the Orifice plate. For Venturi
tube, the reading of manometer 3 and 4 were used to calculate the flow rate.

The flow rate (Q) of the outflow was obtained by measuring how long it takes, with a
stopwatch, for the fluid flow to reach 20 L, with different flow rate. The flow rate was then
calculated by using the constant volume which is 20 L over the measured time. Based on the
results, the flow rates obtained for the Venturi tube were 4.52 L/min, 5.46 L/min, 7.52L/min,
9.78 L/min, and 11.21 L/min while the flow rates for Orifice plat were 5.51 L/min, 8.38
L/min, 10.26 L/min, 12.33 L/min and 15.06 L/min. Both flow rates of Venturi tube and
Orifice plate were based on the increasing flow rates of the Rotameter.

There are a few possibilities that could have contributed to the errors during the experiment
in the lab. First, the tapped-air bubble in the manometers. Trapped air bubbles can highly
influenced the results obtained as the result are inaccurate nor consistent. Besides, parallex is
one the reason for the inaccurate in the results. During the process of the measurement of the
manometer, the reading might not be taken the right way, and the meniscus might not be
stabilized yet when the reading were taken.
