SEXUAL SELF

Like all living things, I am inherently a sexual being. My sexuality is rooted on how I
understand and define myself, how I perceive others, and how I see the world. With the
conservative environment I grew up, I have learned 2 things. First, sex before marriage
is a sin. Second, my body is God’s holy temple, thus I must not find a spiritual high
through arousing my own self. As a result of this, I get awkward and uncomfortable
when topic pertaining sex arise during peer conversations. I get awkward and
uncomfortable watching nude and sex scene on television.

I have never really been sexually open-minded. Not until I turned 17 and realized that
these things are part of the realities in life. I cannot forever get awkward and get
uncomfortable. In my own opinion, sex is an important part of life and overall well-being.
It is actually our purpose, “Be fruitful and multiply” as what the bible states. It is just a
matter of when will a couple do it, favorably after marriage. Yet, in today’s time there
has been a growing cases of teenage pregnancy, and it has been a prominent dilemma
in our nation because it continues to place adolescents into delinquency. Also, an
unexpected pregnancy can be immensely difficult for a young couple to raise a child on
their own, and can easily prevent them from achieving their life goals due to the
responsibilities thrust upon them. Undergraduate and unable to find a job, the parents of
the couple will also be given a share of responsibility to support their grandchild.

In order to refrain this from happening, we, the youth, really need to think about what we
are getting ourselves into. There are a lot of things we need to give up by having a child
at a young age, when in fact we are a child ourselves. We should always think about
what we are doing, and always placed in mind the consequences before we accidentally
become a teenage mother or father. Sex is beautiful when we are stable and can
support our own selves.
DIGITAL SELF

We are the generation of connecting, the generation of giving all of ourselves to the
internet. One of those ways we connect is through social media, such as Youtube,
Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. With the increase of social media, there are people
who incorporate it into their whole being. They post to show the world who they are and
what they do. It’s as though they are not a person unless they post everything that
happens in their life.

In my case, yes, I post online but not every single thing that happens in my life. Posting
and uploading photos online has also its own consequence and we need to be fully
aware with whatever we upload because it might be used against us. It might be used to
tremble our safety and our family’s. Yet, I also can’t blame people who finds satisfaction
in being active at the digital world. It somehow boost an individual’s self-esteem, people
upload photos and statuses online that they feel will receive likes and positive feedback
in which ultimately help their egos. There is also a bigger sense of freedom on the
internet. One might feel a sense of belonging on the digital world, and perhaps striving
to become our ideal selves is one of the reasons why people get hooked on these
online platforms.

As the quote states, “Nothing is so bad that it can’t get worse” . Perhaps, everything is
good but with moderation. We should use social media wisely and mindfully. In
conclusion, the digital world has provided us with greater opportunities to express our
identity in any form we want to. But what we all need to remember is: how will we feel if
we go so far to express ourselves differently online that we forgot what reality is, or
worse, we end up resenting it?
PHYSICAL SELF

Every human being’s body is different in one way or another. There are so many things
that make each body different, but at the same time unique.

My favorite part of my body are my shoulders. I’m not entirely sure why; it’s an irrational
feeling. During the summer I like to show them off as much as possible with halter-top
shirts and dresses. I also love my curves, but I try to keep those more covered up. I love
my legs. I have really strong legs from dancing and walking all the time. My legs can do
just about anything I want them to. I love my stomach, which makes rolls when I slouch
like most healthy stomachs do. When I want to look thinner I can suck it in, but I think it
looks fine even when I don’t. I love my thighs. They store most of my body’s fat, so it’s
often hard to find jeans that will fit them. They jiggle. I love my hands. I have long
fingers that are perfect for playing guitar. The nails on my fingers are strange–they’re all
different shapes. Some are rectangular, some are ovular, and some are nearly square. I
love my face. My bottom lip is much bigger than my top lip, and one of my eyes opens
much wider than the other. I love my feet, which are too wide for many types of shoes.

My body is conventionally attractive, but that’s not why I love it. I love it because it’s
always been there for me, because of the good sensations it provides, because I’m so
intimately familiar with it, and because it’s all mine.

With this body, I am able to interact with other people like having new friends and
sharing experiences together. I am also able to participate in the events that have been
happening like family gatherings, celebrating holidays, and participating to
organizations. I am also able to see and appreciate God’s creation with my own two
naked eyes. With this body, I am able to express myself to other people. I can say what
I feel inside of me. I may also show it along with my gestures. With all the experiences
of my body, it formed me to become the ‘me’ of today.
MATERIAL SELF
POLITICAL SELF
A population’s views on political issues may change as different circumstances occur
each day. The environment around us has a powerful influence on the decisions that we
produce and the views that we as Filipino citizens choose to hold.

As a student and a citizen of the country, I have observed many positive things under
the leadership of President Rodrigo Duterte. He truly believes in his country and goes
all out to help Filipinos everywhere. Duterte’s leadership is clear and absolute and he
knows exactly how to make the Philippines a better country.

Today, there is more foreign investment. There is also a booming service industry
(BPOs) and a growing manufacturing sector employing hundreds of thousands of
Filipinos. Railways, roads, and bridges have been constructed. With the prospering
infrastructure, also comes the flourishing human infrastructure. More hospitals, more
schools and other social services.

Politically, we might hear arguments from both sides of the isle. But when things are
getting better and Filipinos are a part of this greatness, we don’t hear a lot of
complaining. Yes, both sides have a voice and both should be heard. But the sun is
rising and a better new day awaits!
SPIRITUAL SELF

Every year, my family would always give back to the community for everything that we
have received, may it be little or less. Last year we visited the indigenous people in the
mountains of Davao del Norte. I find this very fulfilling and heartwarming to go to
different places and extend a hand to people who are in need of help. With this family
practice, I found my purpose. Personally, I strongly believe that my purpose in life is to
serve others. From a young age, my mother always told me about the many times were
she asked for my help around the house, and as expected, I was always willing to help
with open arms. I thoroughly enjoyed helping others in elementary school – whether it
be with homework, looking for a lost pencil, or answering their questions about the book
we were reading. Helping others gave me a sense of accomplishment. Knowing that I
could put a smile on someone else’s face, was – and still is, the best feeling of
achievement.

I have always prayed to God to lead me to a career that would enable me to help a lot
of people. I have always been dependent to His greater plan. One may not believe that
the purpose of life is to serve others – and that is, OKAY. Our world is made up of
millions of people that all contribute different aspects to our society. Some people may
enjoy being served by other’s, while many enjoy serving those in need in any and every
way possible.
