Conceptual Design

 Conventional approaches
Give the main idea to guide the project, just including simple
features.

 Idea definition (creativeness)

Define some vague ideas about how to solve the project (
brainstorm, Method 635, Six thinking hats method and so on)

 Systematic thinking
Is used to make the problem be clear, adding special features to
reduce or avoid missing of important information. (5 “F” method)
Conceptual Design
 Conventional approaches
 Pressure system who can reach and warn the driver at any time,
there are mechanical, electronic or electro-mechanical systems.
 A visible alarm which would be read by the driver at any time, there
are mechanical and digital ways to reach it.

 Brainstorm
 Concept A: It can use a system based on a pressure gauge to
measure the differential pressure inside the tire.
 Concept B: It can use an electronic system based on a diaphragm
to measure the pressure inside the tire.
 Concept C: It can use a measuring system like that one which trucks
uses to monitoring its tires, it goes on the outside of the vehicle.
 Concept D: It can use the ABS braking system to analyze the status
of the tires.
Analysis refinement
 Concept A
Main idea: It can use a system based on a pressure
gauge to measure the differential pressure inside the tire.
 Details:
 Pen pressure gauge system to measure the pressure
inside the tire.
 The driver has to check the air valve in order to know if
the tire is underinflated.
 It doesn’t use battery, is completely mechanical.
 Size won’t be as bigger as the air valve.
 Use of a color scale code where red is totally
underinflated, yellow is almost underinflated and
green is ok, over the air valve.
Analysis refinement
 Concept B
Main idea: It can use an electronic system based on a
diaphragm to measure the pressure inside the tire.
 Details:
 Electronic system based on a diaphragm to measure
the pressure inside the tire.
 Wireless system to transmit data to a receptor device.
 Own battery to work independently from the vehicle.
 Size won’t be as bigger as the wheel rim.
 Display system using an LCD that is connected and
shown inside the vehicle in real time.
Analysis refinement
 Concept C
Main idea: It can use a measuring system like that one
which trucks uses to monitoring its tires, it goes on the
outside of the vehicle.
 Details:
 Outsider system connected on the wheel to measure
the pressure inside the tire.
 Wired system to transmit data to a receptor device.
 Device connected to the vehicle supply to work.
 Has to be connected outside of the wheel.
 Display system using an LCD that is connected and
shown inside the vehicle in real time.
Analysis refinement
 Concept D
Main idea: It can use the ABS braking system to analyze
the status of the tires.
 Details:
 Statistic measuring based on the performance of the
ABS braking system.
 Wired system to transmit data to a receptor device.
 Calculus computer is connected to the vehicle’s
supply.
 Display system using an LCD that is connected and
shown inside the vehicle according to the prediction
of previous data.

 Function:
To provide the sufficient means for a car’s driver to
know the pressure status of each installed tire on the
vehicle. This system should be working constantly,
monitoring the tire’s status during the road.

 Form:
About the shape, it has to be small in order to put it
onto the tire, besides it needs to include a
transmission system to collect and sent all the data
about the tire.
