Can this customer be saved? Short term? Mid to long term? Why? Why not?

No, losing Kimura K.K. as a customer can't be saved. There were series of mistakes
happened on part of Pramtex.
1. First was the poor relation with Mr. Hashimoto. John was late in delivering the second
quotations to Dr. Hashimoto for which Dr. Hashimoto was upset. Dr. Hashimoto was not
happy after seeing the first quotation, so John should've sent him the second quotation on
time as Dr. Hashimoto is the technical advisor to Mr. Kimura and has a major say in the
financial aspects of the deal.
2. Second was Dr. Komoda was also not in a very good terms with Pramtex as after
setting up the machines in Osaka (which was already delayed by some days), one of the
machines stopped working and it took too much time to repair as Dr. Max Scorse,
responsible for the machines wasn't available at the moment. So, John should've focused
on building the relationship with all the parties involved instead of focusing only on Mr.
Kimura and relying on Dr. Nomura.
3. Dr. Nomura, who acted as a main influencer in getting this deal done was also not
happy with the way Pramtex handled the delivery of the machines along with the poor
response towards the maintenance of one of the machines. Clearly he was disappointed
and he showed this by not returning John' call.
4. Kimura K.K. praised the high quality of Pramtex technology but the machines were out
of their budget. As mentioned in the case, they were looking for the machines which will
meet their expectations technology wise while keeping their budget in check. Pramtex's
competitors were meeting both demands of Kimura K.K. while Pramtex was meeting with
only one of the demands.
