82.2 Cleaning of hydraulic power pack

82.2.1 General
Regular cleaning of the vehicles is a first essental for a correct maintenance and makes it easier to opera-
te the vehicles and its controls.
The legal requirements are to be complied with as far as the handling and the disposal of cleaning agents
and/or auxiliary means are concerned.

The following points must be observed when cleaning the vehicles with steam
jet:
· do not use any cleaning agents which attack paints, seals, synthetics and chrome or which degrade
the environment.
· do not clean any electric components (plugs, sockets, distributor boxes, etc...)
and their immediate environment with steam jet.
· do not aim at bearing points, lubrication points and hydraulic connecting units with steam jet.
· do not clean chrome parts with steam jet.
· do not clean radiator fins wutg steam jet (high-pressure)
· do not clean bearing points of the steering (”Callasto seals”) with steam jet.

82.2.2 Cleaning of hydraulic power pack

Clean the hydraulic power pack, if it is necessary.

83.1 Description of maintenance tasks, maintenance of hydraulic

power pack
Basically, the safety regulations which are valid for the operation and the control of
the vehicle (see Primary Information “Safety Precautions” in the Operating Manual)
are also valid for the maintenance. During the maintenance work on the vehicle, the lo-
cal Accident Prevention Regulations as well as the public regulations must be com-
plied with.

Basically, all maintenance tasks must be performed with the engines switched off and
in a de-energized state and with the vehicle ignition and the battery man switch swit-
ched off.
Exceptions are made for some maintenance steps which are necessary for adjust-
ments, trial runs or driving tests. In this case, the maintenance staff must take suitable
precautions.
During load tests of the hydraulic system (high pressure up to 250 bar) any leaks
which may possibly occur in the high-pressure part can be highly dangerous.
After all maintenance tasks and before putting the vehicle into operation again, a
functional check of all items as well as a driving test must be made.

83.2 Maintenance of the hydraulic system

83.2.1 General

Maintenance tasks on the hydraulic system must be performed by trained and authori-
zed personnel only.

The maintenance tasks on the hydraulic system are mainly limited to the hydraulic reservoirs, the hydrau-
lic valves, the hydraulic filters as well as the hydraulic cylinders. All other components of the system do
not need a special maintenance.
However, the hydraulic pipes and the hydraulic hoses must be checked for damage and leaks at regular
intervals.

We recommend to have the pipes and hoses of your vehicle inspected in a specialist work-
shop after 5 years at the latest. After that period, further inspections must be made every
year.

We hereby also refer to the

“Safety measures for hydraulic hoses” (ZH 1/74) 1988 from the
“Hauptverbands der gewerblichen Berufsgenossenschaften”
(Main Association of Employers‘ Liability Insurance).
Excerpt:
“5.4 Replacement of hoses
5.4.1 The owner/user must ensure that the hoses are replaced at proper intervals, even when
no safety failures can be detected on the hoses.
5.4.2 The time of use of the hoses should not exceed six years, including a storage time of
maximum 2 years....”

83.2.2 Cleaning of hydraulic hose couplings

During each coupling procedure, the hose couplings must be cleaned with benzine. After cleaning, the
hydraulic hose couplings must be greased.
Uncoupled hoses must be closed with protective caps.

Only absolutely clean hose couplings ensure the tightness of the system.
In case of long downtimes of the vehicles, the coupling halves must be greased and closed
with protective caps.

Do not pressurize uncoupled loose halves as they stand only maximum 160 bar. That
is why they must be screwed onto blind coupings.

83.2.3 Hydraulic oil filter change

83.2.3.1 Return filter change on hydraulic power pack

The return filter on the hydraulic power pack must be changed every 2 years. If it is necessary, the return
filter must be changed sooner. See also documentation from the sub-suppliers.

83.2.3.2 Suction filter change on hydraulic power pack

Approximately 50 operating hours after the commissioning of the vehicle and every 2 years the suction fil-
ter (1) on the hydraulic power pack must be changed. If it is necessary, it must be changed sooner.

Fig. 1 Suction filter change on hydraulic power pack

Working steps: (1 - 4)
1. Loosen filter element (1) and remove it.
2. Replace seal ring and lubricate with hydraulic oil before its installation.
3. Fit the filter element (observe tight fit and tightness).
4. Tighten the filter element so that it can be opened by hand.

83.2.4 Maintenance of attachements of the hydraulic power pack

83.2.4.1 Replacement and cleaning of air filter (2)

The air filter (2) of the hydraulic power pack must be cleaned at least every year and must be replaced
every two years. (See also documentation from sub-suppliers).
