MATOBATO TINABLA NI KOKO

Tinabla ni Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III na bigyan ng proteksyon si Edgar Matobato,
nagsasabing miyembro ng Davao Death Squad (DDS) at nagturo kay Pangulong Rodrigo
Duterte at anak na si Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, na sangkot umano sa mga patayan
sa naturang lungsod.
Ayon kay Pimentel, ibinatay niya ang kanyang desisyon sa mga alituntunin ng Senado, at sa
kanyang palagay ay walang kinalaman ang testimonya ni Matobato sa isinasagawang pagdinig
ng Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights ni Senator Leila de Lima at Public Order
naman ni Sen. Panfilo Lacson.
“I intend to run the Senate based on Rules. I’ve denied the request for protective custody of the
witness Edgar Matobato because there is no Senate rule to justify it,” ani Pimentel, kung saan
hindi rin umano nito nakikita na naninilikado ang buhay ng testigo.
Tinawag naman ni Senator Antonio Trillanes IV na walang puso si Pimentel at ipinakita nito ang
pagmaniobra, pabor kay Duterte nang tanggihan nito ang pagkustodya kay Matobato.
“I am very disappointed with the decision of Senate President Pimentel. In fact, he doesn’t even
have the power to overrule a ruling by any Senate committee,” ani Trillanes sa kanyang text
message sa mga mamamahayag.
Binigyang diin naman ni De Lima na wala sa posisyon si Pimentel para tanggihan ang
pagbibigay ng proteksyon kay Matobato.
“The grant of protective custody to witnesses may not be in the Rules, but this is a long-standing
practice, probably in any legislative body in the world, because it is an ancillary and inherent
power of the legislature to support its mandate of conducting inquiries in aid of legislation,” ani
De Lima.
Bakit ngayon lang?
“Desperate times call for desperate measures and somebody is really desperate.”
Ito naman ang reaksyon ni Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II sa pasabog ni Matobato, kung
saan kinuwestiyon din ng kalihim ang timing ng paglutang nito.
“Why only now when there will be a coming House of Representatives’ hearing on why drugs
proliferated in the Bureau of Corrections?” ani Aguirre.
Sa susunod na linggo, dalawampung testigo umano ang sasalang sa imbestigasyong
isasagawa sa Mababang Kapulungan.
Dalawa dito ang magsasabi umano na si Sen. Leila De Lima ay tumanggap ng P5 milyon drug
money, ayon kay Aguirre.
Naniniwala si Aguirre na ang paglutang ni Matobato ay upang i-divert ang isyu laban kay De
Lima.
Presidential sister umalma

Samantala ikinukunsidera ni Presidential sister Jocelyn Duterte ang pagsasampa ng kaso laban
kina De Lima at Matobato.
“I am not a lawyer, I’m going to a lawyer and I’m going to ask them anong rights ko as an
individual and as a private person, na kanino bang responsibilidad ‘yang witness na ‘yan na
nagsasalita,” ayon kay Duterte sa radio interview.
Ito ay matapos ihayag ni Matobato na isang dance instructor na boyfriend umano ng kapatid ng
Pangulo, ang dinukot at pinatay noong 2013.
“I dance for the purpose of dancing, it’s an exercise to me, it’s essential way of expressing
myself… wala ‘yang ganun, the way it appeared na parang pinatay dahil sa may ano—I will not
go any further,” ayon pa kay Ms. Duterte.
Matobato, hindi CAFGU
Pinabulaanan naman ng Philippine Army (PA) na naging miyembro nila si Matobato.
“After checking our records, we found no Edgar Matobato whether as a soldier or as a CAFGU,”
ayon kay Army Col. Benjamin Hao.
Sa pagdinig sa Senado, sinabi ni Matobato na naging miyembro siya ng Citizen Armed Force
Geographical Unit (Cafgu) bago ma-recruit sa Davao Death Squad (DDS) noong 1988.
